MESSAGE FROM MANAGING DIRECTOR It is very sad that I have to report the demise of Tuan Haji Mohamad Ali Mahmud, Chemsain Board Director, on 28th September 2020. A group of Chemsain Directors including me and my wife, Elizabeth, visited his beloved wife, Marzanah and family during this very sad time. Tuan Haji Mohamad Ali was appointed a member of Chemsain Board of Directors in 2002. He was a person of integrity, nice and pleasant to work with. During his time with Chemsain, he must have been very happy to see to the expansion and development of the company to what it is today. We would like to express our grateful thanks to him for his contribution as Board Member to the growth of Chemsain. As shown in this and past issues of Chemsain Newsletters, the company has over the years emphasized greatly on human resource development and training. To go along this direction, i t is important to recognize human resource as the greatest asset of a company. With various training, the staff will value the efforts made for the improvement of their knowledge and skill for career advancement . At the same time, the staff should think of not only what they can get from the company but in return also think of how best they can contribute to the well-being of the company. Our HRD headed by Mr Larry Ong has been in the forefront in providing various training to improve the skill and knowledge of not only Chemsain staff but more so as a training provider to the manpower of various industries. Training and development will surely increase job satisfaction and morale among staff. With well- trained manpower for various industries, it will surely enhance the economic growth of Sarawak. Chemsain HRD has been so well established with a good image that the Economic Planning Unit of Sarawak Government has appointed our HRD to provide technical and entrepreneurship training to Sarawakians under the B40 income group. Well done to Mr Larry Ong and your team members for all the hard work and effort. Chemsain Newsletter is useful in motivating our staff to be happy at what they are doing, more efficient and productive in their performance. It is also an important channel in keeping our members informed and interested in the company’s activities, services, social events and other news. Most of the reports in the Newsletter appear to be on training from HRD and HSE. For Chemsain Newsletter to be more meaningful, it should reflect on the activities of every department of the Company. Our Ms Sharon Chai, Graphic Designer & Communication Executive, would like to have more articles for the Newsletter. All Heads of departments please take note on this and do your best to give every support to Sharon. The challenges of Covid19 are still before us with a threat of the coming of the third wave of the virus. So it is very important to protect yourself and others around you by taking appropriate precautions. Please follow strictly the advice of our Senior Manager of HSE Department and the SOP of the Health Authorities. Take care, stay safe and God Bless CHAN WOON PENG

VOL. 3 THE INTERVIEW PEOPLE OF CHEMSAIN Date : 24 July 2020 Interviewer : Joanne Chew Interviewee : Gillespie Medan “Happiness is turning your hobby into your I started to like drone when Chemsain first career.” – Chilly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Drone Academy Asia (DAA). The display of drones during that event really attracted me. It was only when I had my first DJI Tello given to me by DAA that really piqued my interest in drones. In 2019, I purchased my own DJI Spark and really put a blast on to it. Drones are fun to play with, especially when you do photography and videography with it. Slowly, I built up my interest in drones and my hobby into my career. Piloting a drone may be complicated at first but after you know how to pilot it, it can actually create a new hobby. Soon, I upgraded my DJI Spark to DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, where Mavic is better in terms of performance, camera and applications. To expand or widen my knowledge of drones, I took up an Aerial Mapping course back in 2019. With M2Z, I started to practice my Aerial Mapping skills together with a software for photo stitching of the data that I have obtained from Aerial Mapping activities at various places for a couple of months. In 2020, I decided to challenge myself to share my experiences with drones to the Program Peningkatan Kapasiti & Kapabiliti Kumpulan Khusus (PPKKKK) trainees. This has given me the opportunity to teach and conduct classes based on my personal knowledge of drones in hopes to build up the interest of the trainees towards drone as well. 23
