VOL. 6 MESSAGE FROM MANAGING DIRECTOR Ms Lynette Kueh Yew Fung joined Chemsain in May 2021 replacing Ms Sharon Chai who left the Company in March 2021. This is the first issue of Chemsain Newsletter handled by Lynette. It is noticed that not all the Divisions have contributed articles for the newsletter to make it more informative and meaningful to members of Chemsain. Divisional Heads are to do their best to give their support by submitting articles for every issue of the newsletter. With Covid19 cases surging in Sarawak, in fact, the whole Malaysia, the situation of the pandemic has enforced the government to implement strict SOP for the MCO. The arrival of the new variant Delta which spreads easily and fast has caused more admissions to hospitals and death cases. All of us should give whole-hearted support to the government to sustain the spread and get a flat curve for Covid19 as soon as possible. All Chemsain staff should by now have registered for vaccination, if not, they are to do so as soon as possible, same for family members, to prevent the infection. Covid19 pandemic has done tremendous damage to various business concerns causing great suffering to people who have lost their jobs and find difficulty in having food on the table. There were even reports of suicides due to desperation caused by the pandemic. There are also people who lost their jobs but being innovative and creative by going into other fields to face the challenges. A good example is a lady from aircraft engineer to curry puff maker. It is hoped that the pandemic will clear off before long. Sarawak government is doing its best to recover from the economic downturn. With the blessings of abundance of natural resources and also the development of agriculture and other sectors will provide employment and business opportunities to recover and strengthen the economic challenges caused by the adverse impact of the economic downturn. Covid19 pandemic has hastened us to the adoption of digital solution to ease the process of doing business. This inclusion will enable many from far and near to work, learn and connect digitally. It is now most important for employees to reskill their capabilities so as to be able to face the future confidently to continue to upscale and improve their proficiency in various IT areas. It is the policy of Chemsain to give priority to staff safety and health. Many of our members are working from home. For those working from home have to organize and manage their work well. There is an article on “How To work From Home with Ease” by Lynette in this Newsletter and please go through it to understand more in WFH. Let us all take good care of ourselves, stay safe and healthy. Chan Woon Peng 3

VOL. 6 MENTAL HE ALTH AT WORK Prepared By Khairil Abel B Abdullah Source WHO & ILO What Is Mental Health? Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence throughout adulthood. An employee, who for years had a great attendance record and was a well-liked team player, has been booking off sick much more often. Their colleagues have noticed that they have become quite withdrawn and uncommunicative. An employee with young children and a spouse who is very ill is frequently absent and having difficulty meeting their performance targets. When in the office, they are often on the verge of tears and seems incapable of focusing on their work. 14

Sticking to a work routine and working hours is essential for a work-life balance. An organized timetable is highly adviced or you can set your alarm earlier so you have time to freshen up before work. Plan and isolate your workplace from Plan a designated working spot solely dedicated to work only. Make sure you have all the equipment or material on your work area and get a chair that is comfortable to sit on for long hours. Make sure to grab your water bottle along to avoid multiple trips to the kitchen and getting side tracked.
