MESSAGE FROM MANAGING DIRECTOR With this message, I wish all members of Chemsain well during this stressful and challenging time. The well- being of you all and your families is very much in my mind. Covid-19 pandemic has taken us through a few phases of Movement Control Orders implemented from March 2020, first the MCO followed by Conditional MCO and presently Recovery MCO and has continued to be a challenging time for all of us. Though we may now enjoy some easing of the restrictions, we have to stay alert and take good care of ourselves and our families to stay safe and healthy. Chemsain gives priority to the well-being of our members and with the guidance of En. Khairil Abel, Senior Safety and Health Manager, we have strictly followed the government SOP and taken all precautionary measures. So far our company has been blessed to be free from any Covid-19 problems. As we are now under the Recovery MCO, we should be aware of the dangers of this virus and not relax in taking all safety measures. Various businesses are very badly affected by Covid-19 with the implementation of the Movement Control Orders. Some business concerns have suffered so much losses and been unable to sustain and have to close down. For Chemsain, we have faced many tough challengers and this one has been the most difficult so far. Still we have managed well with some other resources and able to survive this very hard time. Throughout the Movement Control Orders we have dedicated and committed staff who have been working from home and also some who have to provide essential services as required. To all these staff members, we deeply appreciate their team work and dedication. With all the restrictions under Movement Control Order, we see virtual meetings and learning have taken on a more important role with various events transformed into online experience. It is hoped that this trend will continue as much as possible as with more use of Zoom video meetings and training, there will be great savings in cost and travelling time. For Chemsain, all Directors/Heads of Divisions should continue with the practice of Zoom video meetings to interact directly with their Branch staff as well as for interviews in the recruitment of staff. It is reminded that we have to adopt a cautious and prudent approach to the easing of the Movement Control Order. Continue to adhere strictly to all precautionary measures under the government SOP and laws regarding Covid-19 otherwise we may bring about a second wave of this virus which will cause more suffering to our people and country. So do take good care of ourselves , stay safe and healthy. CHAN WOON PENG

VOL. 3 THE INTERVIEW PEOPLE OF CHEMSAIN Date : 24 July 2020 Interviewer : Joanne Chew Interviewee : Gillespie Medan “Happiness is turning your hobby into your I started to like drone when Chemsain first career.” – Chilly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Drone Academy Asia (DAA). The display of drones during that event really attracted me. It was only when I had my first DJI Tello given to me by DAA that really piqued my interest in drones. In 2019, I purchased my own DJI Spark and really put a blast on to it. Drones are fun to play with, especially when you do photography and videography with it. Slowly, I built up my interest in drones and my hobby into my career. Piloting a drone may be complicated at first but after you know how to pilot it, it can actually create a new hobby. Soon, I upgraded my DJI Spark to DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, where Mavic is better in terms of performance, camera and applications. To expand or widen my knowledge of drones, I took up an Aerial Mapping course back in 2019. With M2Z, I started to practice my Aerial Mapping skills together with a software for photo stitching of the data that I have obtained from Aerial Mapping activities at various places for a couple of months. In 2020, I decided to challenge myself to share my experiences with drones to the Program Peningkatan Kapasiti & Kapabiliti Kumpulan Khusus (PPKKKK) trainees. This has given me the opportunity to teach and conduct classes based on my personal knowledge of drones in hopes to build up the interest of the trainees towards drone as well. 22
