conEvxepyliacnitce Nida Jabeen I guess we are all familiar with neither a single cause nor an easy solution. the disturbing repetition of complaints But one thing that appeals to more atten- about education nowadays. Restless stu- tion is how we conceive the very process dents, teacher burnout, and turnover, of teaching and learning. poor test scores, failure to keep up with technological changes, inadequate and We all have that impulse to expect equal funding, and a lack of relevance a better education by following the pattern to either the current life of students or we have experienced as students informal their future as both citizens and workers. mounting while ignoring what we have There are a lot of issues related to these learned as the contributors of life. incomplete lists of complaints which has 99
We believe that conventional pedagogy is the natural order of things, perhaps the only possible structure to run an educational system. Teaching has become just a devoir and scoring has become an irrelevant thing to do for the actual life of the students, much less a necessity to the needs of a larg- er society. Students are learning as the teachers had learned from their academic life, which is bygone. Many institutions are not even ready to engage with new concepts and experiments in the educational system believing that it’s not worth the short. But little did they know that the results will be a marvelous substitution in the sys- tem with better reflections of the students. A teacher could change the whole system. There is no resistance to the fact that an educator is more than he/she is teaching rather they are what they manifest. “Teaching is the very noble profession that shapes the character caliber and future of an individual “. As Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam said: “Teaching is the very noble profession that shapes the character caliber and future of an individual. If the people remember me as a good teacher that will be the biggest honor for me”. It is a privilege for a teacher which also burdens their responsibility towards the society. Subsequently when someone can be with the students not as their teacher, but as their mentor there goes the explicit convey- ance of life. 100
