Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the US. It is the number one cause of kidney failure, lower-limb amputations, and adult blindness. At risk patients include: prediabetics, overweight, 45 years or older, parents/brother/sister with type 2 diabetes, physically active less than 3 times a week, had gestational diabetes, or given birth to a baby who weighs more than 9 pounds, African American, Hispanic/Latino American, American Indian, or Alaska Native.
