Lady Norlaine Y. Metica Mathematics In the Modern World —Haiku Sir Durwin Santos
Beginning
See math everywhere Welcome GE 113 Math in modern world
Math finds a way in. A proper haiku would be: It’s five, seven, five.
A sum of zero Exemplifies nothingness Potent with others
Coffee or milk tea Up to you, but make sure to Celebrate day!
Math is everywhere From waking up to sleeping And all in between
This world without Math Like dividing by zero Won’t and can’t exist
There’s no end to it It’s going on forever It’s an infinite
One plus one is two Two to the power of five Equals thirty-two
Factoring like life We’re forming groups to fit in Found out we’re alone
Write five-seven-five I believe you have observed All of these are odd
Mathematics is A language that nature speaks To all of people

Math is always present in poetry like in Haiku. Separating the two would be equivalent to taking oxygen out of the air. Even though oxygen is invisible to the human eye, it is a crucial aspect of our existence. A traditional haiku originating from Japan is a three-line poem of seventeen syllables with a syllable count of 5/7/5. Haiku, which frequently uses pictures from nature, emphasizes simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression. We can also see the layers and limitations that each poem is bound by as we start to use counting to unravel them. Suddenly, patterns begin to emerge. Though having so many standards and guidelines for poetry may seem restrictive, the math itself is what allows it to affect us in such profound and powerful ways. Poetry has traditionally been a vocalized word art genre. It was designed to be heard— not read. Poetry's songlike quality is not by chance. Math contributes significantly to the rhythmic quality and tempo of certain poems like in haiku I made. Haiku has a fixed number of lines, and each line has a certain number of syllables. Because a haiku's numerical elements alter how it sounds, this affects how it is read or recited. Whether we despise mathematics and poetry or hunger for them, they can play a significant part in our life—especially if we begin to seek them out.
