CASE STUDIES King Richard III Visitor Centre - Leicester We have had the pleasure of completing work in the central courtyard garden of Leicester’s King Richard III Visitor Centre. One of the ideas behind the new garden design was to link it to the gardens of Leicester Cathedral across the road and choose plants that were relevent to the king. In one bed - an obvious choice - it was decided to plant some white roses with yellow broom. Since medieval times the white rose has been the symbol of the House of York of which Richard Plantagenet was the last king. Case Study: Bentley Park - Doncaster MBC Bentley Park was first opened in 1923 having been financed through the Bentleys Miners Welfare fund, which reflected the rich mining heritage of the area. Until the late 90’s the park was open and managed as a community resource, but an increase in vandalism and anti-social behaviour resulted in the loss of investment. In 2011 Doncaster Council was awarded £2.5m Heritage Lottery funding to re-open the Pavilion and restore the parks horticultural quality. Coles began to supply the shrubs, trees and herbaceous plants in 2014 as part of a successful tender submission. The images compare the area both 2014/15 and present day.
