CONTINENT IMPORTANT FACTS  Largest continent in both land mass and population.  More than 3.2 billion people live there.  Includes 55 countries.  The Great Wall of China is there.  The greatest elevation on earth is at the top of Mt. Everest - 29,035 feet above sea level.  2nd smallest continent.  Has the world's largest country; Russia, and the world's smallest country; Vatican.  Includes 50 countries.  2nd largest continent.  Includes 54 countries.  Continent with biggest desert – Africa (Sahara Desert).  Africa is also called Dark Continent because for long time not too much was known about it.  Continent with maximum number of countries is Africa.  Africa is the place where first primitive humans lived.

Permanent humanpopulation of zero.  It is 98% covered in ice.  Continent with one country  5th largest continent.  Smallest continent in the worldand is unified as one country.  Home to 18.3 million people,which is equivalent to the populationof New York State.  Contains 6 states and 2territories.  The country speaks English.  3rd largest continent.  It was named after the explorer Americo Vespucci.  Alaska was originally part of Russia but it comes in North American continent.  United States purchased Alaska from Russia on 30th March 1867 for 7.2 million U.S. dollars. Alaska is the largest state of US by area.

 4th largest continent. All 14 countries speak Spanish, except for Brazil which speaks Portuguese. Lake Titicaca in Peru has the highest elevation on earth. The Incas were the largest group of indigenous people in South America when the Europeans arrived.

DID you know that…?There is really only one World Ocean; for convenience, most geographers divide it into four: Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, and Indian. The richest country is Qatar located in Asia. The other richest countries are Luxembourg and Singapore. The poorest countries are Malawi, Burundi and Central African Republic. Africa is considered the continent with the poorest countries in the world.At last count, there are 193 independent countries.The subtropical Sahara is the largest hot desert at 3.5 million square miles.
