A  File  in  European  Tapestries…     The  House  of  Aulan  is  a  French  noble  dynasty  dating  back  to  1050.  They  share  both   aristocratic  and  royal  European  lineage.       Recently,  the  family  has  been  known  to  be  one  of  the  largest  Champagne  families  in   the  world  with  their  previous  ownership  of  the  Champagne  houses  of  Taittinger  and   Piper   Heidsieck,   with   Francois   de   Suarez   d’Aulan   being   dubbed   the   ‘King   of   Champagne’.   Jean   de   Suarez   d’Aulan   additionally   gained   notoriety   towards   the   family   in   Europe   during   the   20th   century   for   inheriting   $500   million   dollars   (estimated  to  be  approximately  $10.6  billion  today).     The  family’s  current  business  assets  are  unknown,  however  over  the  20th  century   they  have  had  proprietorship  over:     Baccarat  Crystal       The  Hôtel  de  Crillon,  located  at  the  foot  of  the  Champs-‐Élysées  in  Paris     Taittinger  Champagne  House     Piper  Heidsieck  Champagne  House     Alta  Vista  Winery     Altamana  Winery       Chateau  Dereszla  Winery     Chateau  Sansonnet  Estate  Winery           The  House  of  Aulan  is  a  descendent  family  to  the  Austro-‐Hungarian  House  of   Habsburg,  the  Czeck  Houses  of  Czernin  and  Lobkowitz,  the  Spanish  Houses  of   Suárez  de  Figueroa  and  Arragon,  and  the  Anglo-‐Norman  House  of  Beaumont.     The  family  shares  kinship  with  many  European  royal  and  aristocratic  families,   notably  the  House  of  Valois,  House  of  Bourbon,  and  the  House  of  Windsor.     After  resisting  against  the  Holy  Roman  Emperor  Charles  V  to  become  King  of  Spain   the   main   branch   of   the   family   were   forced   to   escape   from   Spain   to   France,   losing   their   vast   powers   in   Spain   consisting   of   palaces,   castles,   land,   their   private   army,   Spanish  influence,  and  their  titles,  most  notably  the  title  of  Duke  of  Feria.  They  were   given  the  title  of  \"Marquis  d'Aulan\",  and  \"Count  d'Aulan  (from  the  title  \"  Count  of  the   Baronie   \").   Direct   eldest   male   heirs   were   usually   given   the   title   of   Count   or   simply   Prince  étranger,  and  would  later  inherit  the  higher  title  of  Marquis.

On  January  2,  1492,  the  last  Muslim  ruler  in  Iberia,  Emir  Muhammad  XII  of  Granada,   known   as   Boabdil   to   the   Spanish,   surrendered   complete   control   of   the   Emirate   of   Granada   to   Fernando   V(family   relative)   and   Isabella   I   of   Castille   'The   Catholic   Monarchs'   (Spanish:   Los   Reyes   Católicos)   after   the   last   battle   of   the   Granada   War.   Don  Fernando  Suarez  de  Figueroa  who  led  the  army  was  given  by  King  Fernando  V   of   Aragon   the   title   of   Duke   de   Feria   and   ranked   him   a   Grande   of   Spain   (Spanish:   Grandes  de  España  ).     On  April  15,  1517  The  Emperor  Charles  V  (  1500–1558  )  (Charles  V)  of  Holy  Roman   Empire,   decided   to   exile   Don   Fernando's   grandson,   Don   Juan   Suarez   de   Figueroa   who  did  not  agree  with  the  rest  of  his  family  to  vote  in  favor  of  him  in  the  parliament   (  Spanish:  Cortes  )  as  ruler  of  the  Spanish  Kingdom  (  1516–1556  ).     After   settling   in   the   Kingdom   of   France,   King   Francois   I   of   France   (   1494–1547   )(Francis   I   of   France   )   gave   Don   Juan   Suarez   de   Figueroa   the   1st   title   of   Marquis   d'Aulan   in   1532   and   related   properties   through   his   marriage   with   Isabeau   de   L'Espine.     The   castle   d'Aulan,   built   in   the   11th   century,   surrounded   by   2000   acres   in   the   Drome  district  of  Provence  shows  some  of  the  art  collection  of  the  Family  as  well  as   their  French  and  Spanish  roots  testimony.  Part  of  the  castle  is  open  to  the  public  as  a   museum.     The  4th  Marquis,  Henri  de  Suarez  d'Aulan  (  1704–1775  ),(Henri  de  Suarez  d'Aulan)   was   Marshall   of   the   Kingdom   of   France   and   King   Louis   XVI   appointed   Governor   of   the   island   of   Ré   (   English:   Isle   of   Rhé   )   Île   de   Ré   one   of   the   most   strategic   point   of   defense  of  the  country  during  pre-‐revolutionary  period.     The   9th   Marquis   Jean   de   Suarez   d'Aulan   (   1900–1944   ),   (Jean   de   Suarez   d'Aulan)   was   a   famous   French   resistant   and   pilot   in   the   famous   French   and   American   Lafayette  squadron  (  French:  Lafayette  escadrille  )  Lafayette  escadrille  during  the  II   World  War  as  well  as  President  and  owner  of  prestigious  Champagne  House  Piper-‐ Heidsieck.     Jean   died   in   his   Republic   P-‐47   plane   during   aerial   combat   in   Heidwiller   (Alsace,   France)  on  October  8,  1944.  He  was  the  oldest  fighter  pilot  of  the  Second  World  War   and   one   of   the   very   few   French   pilots   to   be   awarded   the   English   Victoria   Cross   and   the  French  Légion  d'honneur  for  his  dedication  during  combats.       The   family   has   been   invested   in   the   alcohol   industry   since   the   late   18th   century   particularly   with   well-‐known   and   prestigious   champagne   houses   Piper   Heidsieck   and  Taittinger  as  well  as  other  ventures.     The   de   Suarez   d’Aulan   noble   family   has   been   known   to   be   extremely   affluent   and   powerful   throughout   the   second   millennium   and   to   have   had   impacts   on   European   history  in  France,  Spain,  Bohemia, and  Great  Britain.  According  to  records  held  in  the

Archives   municipales   et   Musée   du   Mont   de   Piété   the   Aulan   family   are   cousins   to   certain  members  of  the  Bourbon  family,  notably  the  archives  claim  Aulan  kindred  to   Henry  IV  of  France.  These  relations  to  the  House  of  Bourbon  were  established  when   the  genesis  family  (House  of  Suarez)  were  attaining  masses  of  power  in  Spain  during   the   15th-‐16th   century   and   were   making   allies   of   other   powerful   European   households  through  marriage.  When  a  branch  of  the  family  was  forced  to  flee  Spain   due  to  civil  disruptions,  the  House  of  Bourbon  gifted  the  cousin  family  refuge  as  well   as  new  lands  in  France  and  a  new  title  and  name  (House  of  Aulan),  these  being  the   family's  principle  titles,  Marquis  de  Suarez  d’Aulan  and  Count  de  Suarez  d’Aulan.       The   family   originates   its   English   ancestry   from   the   House   of   Beaumont   which   was   originally   a   Norman   family.   The   origins   of   the   Anglo-‐Norman   part   of   the   family   are   said   to   be   from   the   Viking   conquests   which   first   formed   Normandy.   Other   English   familial  relations  includes,  cousinhood  of  the  Duke  of  Abercorn,  as  well  as  numerous   other  English  nobility.     The  family  has  many  links  to  royal  and  aristocratic  families  across  Europe  as  well  as   other  powerful  leading  families  within  Europe.  The  family  is  widely  considered  to  be   one   of   the   most   historically   important,   old,   and   powerful   aristocratic   families   in   Europe.     The  family's  ancestry  date  back  to  the  very  first  power  families  in  Europe.     Sources  &  Citations:     1.
