What is Corona Virus or Covid 19 ? ➢ Corona virus is a disease caused by a virus called “Corona . It is scientifically called Corona . It got the name corona because of its structure that resembles a crown . ➢ It was first discovered in 1930 but it came to light very recently after its outbreak in China infecting thousands and killing many . ➢ The virus outbreak occurred first in Wuhan,China and subsequently spread to the other parts of the world . It has resulted in great economic and social setbacks all round the world.
➢ This virus caused a sudden outbreak because of its ease of transmission.It can be easily spread from one person to another by aerosols ,sneezing ,coughing and even mere touch. ➢ The spread of virus started in China in November 2019 but it reached the rest of the world by February 2020in . ➢ This virus mainly attacks the respiratory system and houses in the lungs causing severe respiratory problems. The virus can survive on abiotic substances such as plastic and metal surfaces.
➢ The corona virus has close genetic similarity with the corona virus found in bat suggesting that it might have emerged from a bat borne -virus . ➢ It shows little genetic diversity indicating that it has recently mutated to become infectious to humans. ➢ It was present among us even before we knew anything about it but it recently changed itself to house and attack the human genetics.
➢ The corona virus as of now has become a major issue around the world and is believed to trouble us for some unexpected time . ➢ There is no cure for this disease and no vaccine till today .The scientists all over the world are working on developing a vaccine nd finding a cure for this novel virus. ➢ We can however get rid of it by washing our hands with soap or sanitizer.
IMPACTS OF COVID 19 ON THE WORLD.
CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC ➢ As per the World Health Organization[WHO],COVID-19 has so far affected 215 countries or territories or areas and has infected over 4 million people globally. ➢ Coronavirus or COVID-19 which was first identified in Wuhan, China in now a pandemic globally. ➢ Most parts of the world are under complete lockdown to curb and contain the spread of the highly contagious disease.
CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC ➢ Unfortunately, despite 151598 deaths worldwide and over 2.21 Million confirmed cases Covid-19, all eyes are hooked towards the discovery of vaccine to treat the patients and save their lives. ➢ The experts are of the view that it may take one and a half year for the vaccine to be available in the market.
➢ The Covid-19 has also impacted Sports, News and Media, Entertainment and Services Industries to the extent that all the sporting events have been suspended and leagues have been rescheduled and big events such as PSL, IPL, FIFA, World Cup, Olympic Games have been completely cancelled raising concerns among the players.
COVID-19 pandemic in Italy ➢ The ongoing COVID-19 PANDEMIC was first confirmed to have spread to ITALY on 31 JAN 2020, when two Chinese tourists in Rome tested positive for the virus. ➢ One week later an Italian man repatriated back to Italy from the city of Wuhan, China, was hospitalised and confirmed as the third case in Italy. ➢ A cluster of cases was later detected, starting with 16 confirmed cases in Lombardy on 21 FEB, and 60 additional cases and the first deaths on 22 FEB. By the beginning of March, the virus had spread to all regions of Italy.

MIGRANTS ➢ Migrants are facing problems related to food, shelter and fear of getting infected. ➢ They are also not able to travel back to their hometown due to lockdown.
POVERTY ➢ At the country level, the three countries with the largest change in the number of poor due to lockdown all over the world is estimated to be India[12 million], Nigeria[5million] and the Democratic Republic of Congo[2 million]. ➢ Countries such as Indonesia, South Africa, and China are also forecasted to have more than 1 million people into extreme poverty.
Impact of COVID-19 on Global Economy Structure ➢ The out break of pandemic Covid-19 all over the world has disturbed the political, social, economic, religious, and financial structures of the whole world. ➢ World’s topmost economies such as the UK, US, China, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and many others are at the verge of collapse.
➢ Stock Markets around the world have been pounded and oil prices have fallen off a cliff.

Present situation of India 1. The total cases in India (as of 26 ) stands at 145379 cases. 2. The total number of active cases stands at 80722,with 60490 discharged patients and 4167 deaths so far. 3. The health ministry has said that the mortality rate of covid cases in the country in 3.06% against the global rate of 6.05%. 4. The state of Maharashtra has the highest number of cases with 52667 active cases. 5. The least affected states of India include Sikkim with 1 active case and Arunachal Pradesh with 2 active cases. 6. India is going through the fourth lockdown with less restrictions. (Data as of 26 May 2020)

Economic impact of Covid-19 on India ➢ The impact of coronavirus pandemic in India has been largely disruptive . ➢ The world bank and other rating agencies had downgraded India's growth. ➢ However after the announcement of the economic package in mid-May India's GDP had downgraded to negative figures. ➢ Within a month the unemployment rose from 6.7% to 26%.
➢ 5. During the lockdown approximately 14 crore people lost employment. ➢ 6. The Indian economy was expected to lose 32000 crore rupees everyday. ➢ 7. Major companies in india such as Larsen & Toubro, Bharat Forge, Ultratech cement etc have temporarily suspended or reduced the operations. ➢ 8.Young startups have been impacted due to the fall in funding.
➢ 9. Some defense operations have been affected/delayed due to this pandemic. ➢ 10. Stock markets in India posted the worst loses in history on 23rd March 2020. ➢ 11. On 12th may the Prime Minister announced an economic package of 20 lakh crore rupees which is about 10% of India's GDP. ➢ Impact on different occupations ➢ AGRICULTURE: Due to the logistical problems following the lockdown the tea estates were unable to harvest the first flush. The Darjeeling tea based industry has seen a significant fall in revenue. The farmers are unable to sell their produce and are suffering huge losses.The farmers are one of the biggest suffers due to this pandemic.
Manufacturing: All major companies have stopped/reduced the operations in the factories.The manufacturing sector has been affected a lot due to this pandemic . Most of the companies are facing economic hardship. Stock markets: On 23rd March 2020 the stock market of india faced the worst loss in history. Nifty fell by 2000 points and NDE Nifty fell by 1150 points. Defense: The Department of Military Affairs has stopped all the capital acquisitions. No major deals will be made. Delivery of many deals will not be done.
E-Commerce: many e-commerce companies like flipkart and amazon stopped its services for non-essential items so that they can deliver he essential items. Only the essential and needy items are being delivered .in some states of india the companies are not functioning. Social impact of covid-19 on India Migrant workers and labour force: The people belonging to this community are the worst affected due to the pandemic. They are not finding enough food to eat as they are not earning money anymore.due to the lockdown they are not
able to go back to their homes and are finding it difficult to live in the cities without money. ➢ The government has set up NGOs and other relief camps that will provide food and shelter to the daily wage workers. however all the people are not able to get access to it. ➢ The workers have being provided with medical essentials such as masks,sanitizers and other medicines. ➢ Railways has transported 31,00,000 migrants back to their villages in the special trains allotted for them.
Struggles faced by migrant workers
Urban slums:it is estimated that in India,29.4% of the people live in informal settlements called slums.Their lives are better than the homeless as they have a shelter over their head. But life in these places is difficult as social distancing norms cannot be practised. The facilities available in these places are very minimum and it is also not easy for them to live there. They can also get affected easily for the novel coronavirus due to lack of hygiene.

Homeless:the poorest people living in the streets are most vulnerable to the novel coronavirus. The homeless include people living on streets,in front of religious places,in parks and other open places. Many cannot afford to buy the medical requirement that are essential to stay safe from novel coronavirus and can get exposed to it. Lack of hygiene is also a reason for them getting exposed to the novel coronavirus. The poor are socially vulnerable to the virus. They can easily get affected and the virus can aslo spread esily.

Agricultural Labourers: The agricultural labourers have lost their livelihood, as the lockdown has bought the entire farm activities to a standstill.bring labourers they are unable to take loans and they also live in poor conditions which make them vulnerable to the virus. All the poor people are the most affected due to the novel coronavirus. This has a bad psychological and social effect on them. The government is introducing many reforms to improve the lives of the poor but many are not accessible to it.
The spread of the novel coronavirus can be stopped only through maintaining social distancing and also staying hygienic.
