Paul Shumejko made a motion to the Federal Aide Committee to move the remaining $200k federal reimbursement from 2021 to this year. This funding should be available this spring. Tracey and Leon are administering the UCMR4 testing (see box). UCMR4: Every five years the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issue a new list of no more than 30 unregulated contaminants to be monitored by public water systems (PWSs). The UCMR program provides nationally representative data on the occurrence of particular contaminants in drinking water to help the EPA determine whether to initiate the process to develop a national primary drinking water regulation. The City of Rochester Hills is required to test several locations monthly and bi-weekly for the rest of the year. The staff also received and evaluated bids totaling close to $14 million for several major construction projects, pushing for a first quarter solicitation to secure favorable bids. These projects include: • 2020 Concrete Road Replacement Program • 2020 HMA Road Rehabilitation • 2020 HMA Road and Pathway Rehabilitation Program • Bedford Square and Tienken Court Water Main/Road Resurfacing Project Personnel: We continue to make training a priority and are working to fill the 12 vacancies in the department. We are hoping to have our new part-time Administrative Assistant on board by mid-March. We will start interviewing applicants for the Field Services Manager, Laborers and summer seasonal positions in the coming weeks. We wrapped up our 70 in-person performance evaluations and transferred all 70 of those to the new PERFORM platform. February 2020

Community Impact Dear Mr. Luedeman- I wanted to take this opportunity once again to thank you for giving our St John Lutheran Future City team students such a wonderful, interesting and thorough tour of the DPS and water system back in November. They really appreciated getting a real life look at problems they are trying to solve. You were so generous with your time and willingness to answer their questions. They were also able to integrate information about you, the field trip, and SCADA into their Q & A time in the state regional competition on January 28th. We wanted to let you know that they competed against 32 other teams, and they won! As the Michigan Regional Champions, our team is leaving this weekend to travel to Washington DC to compete at the National level just blocks from the Capitol. We will be competing against teams from around the country with the final competition on Tuesday, February 18th. Thank you again for your help and investing in our team! Sincerely, Julie Raikes (parent) “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much” – Helen Keller
