eCare Medical Eye Service Take control of your eye health today
Welcome to eCareAt Evolutio we understand that personal eye care is a source of anxiety for many. That’s why we created the eCare Medical Eye Service: an affordable, medicaleye care programme that puts you back in control of caring for your visualhealth. Thousands of people across the country trust the expertise andtechnology within the eCare plan, including the NHS, to maintain both theirclarity of sight and peace of mind. The eCare plan is a medical partnership between your local accredited optometrist and Evolutio’sremotely based ophthalmology care team; familiarity and expertise working together to provide bothoptical assessments and treatment of certain non-surgical and non-emergency eye conditions. Mostimportantly the eCare plan works on a timescale that’s controlled by you, removing the need forwaiting lists and hospital visits, reducing the burden on the NHS.Becoming an eCare plan member is a simple process, maintained on an ongoing basis by affordablefixed monthly or annual payments. These payments cover your visual health assessments, diagnosisand management. The only additional potential payments are for medication if prescribed by ourophthalmology unit. Spectacles and contact lenses are not included within the plan price and, where required, would need to be purchased separately.
eCare creates peace of mind, putting you incontrol of your visual health. First and foremost, we’ll look out for your safety Because the safety of your visual health is our primary concern, eCare operates under the strictest clinical governance of consultant ophthalmologists who personally review all member’s test results. In addition, every eCare clinic adheres to strict clinical protocols and policies, with regular compliance checks, to ensure your visual health couldn’t be in safer hands. We’ve always looked to make it affordable. We understand that ongoing personal eye care costs are one of the biggest concerns. Evolutio’s eCare plan has a series of fixed payment levels relative to your visual health, as assessed by your local eCare accredited optometrist. These payment levels factor in your current individual visual health and potential future personal requirements. The eCare Medical Eye Service is both transparent and inclusive of all diagnostics, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). Payments can either be made annually upfront or split into manageable monthly amounts at 0% APR. We’ll see if we can make it as convenient as possible. Your time is precious, so eCare ensures that your visual health can be regularly monitored within your nearest eCare accredited optometrist, at times and dates that suit you. By utilising the latest in eye health technology, alongside the expertise of a consultant ophthalmologist, eCare removes the need, inconvenience and potential reticence around hospital visits.

A million people in the UK live with sight lossthat could have been preventedWe are continually evolving eye care, delivering the opportunity for patients to managetheir eye health and empowering them to take control. At Evolutio we develop techniques to deliver the most affordable, trusted eye caresystems……because we believe everyone deserves to see the worldclearly. eCare Essentials £14.99 per month 0% APR eCare Enhanced £24.99 per month 0% APR
Getting started with eCareWhere is my local eCare Clinic and how do I join?To find your nearest accredited optician practice with an eCare Clinic, simply call the eCare Team on0203 7807860 or email [email protected]. Then simply arrange a convenient appointment for aninitial consultation at an eCare accredited optician practice. What will happen at my first appointment? At your first appointment at your accredited eCare Clinic, the optometrist will conduct a number of eyeexaminations including taking a high-resolution 3D image of your eye using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). The OCT, along with your other examination and diagnostic results, will then be securely transferred to Evolutio’s remotely based ophthalmology unit for a further assessment by a consultant eye doctor. During the first appointment, the optometrist will also undertake an in-depth conversation with you regarding your general visual health. This will help determine your potential eCare plan payment level, so it’s important to answer candidly to ensure you have the correct level of cover. Your eCare plan price is set by your optometrist and is dependent on your personal anticipated future level of care. Generally, plans can range from £14.99 per month (£180 per year) up to £24.99 per month (£299 per year). It’s a relatively small price to pay for such invaluable peace of mind. What happens if I need immediate treatment? During your first appointment, if more serious or immediate visual health concerns are discovered, the optometrist may need to immediately refer you to hospital. Minimising time delay between detection and subsequent treatment is a critical factor in maintaining good visual health. Should you need to receive less immediate medical treatment, then Evolutio’s ophthalmologist unit will assess whether this can be provided within the nearest accredited optician’s eCare Clinic. Our ophthalmologist unit will then also be able to prescribe any medicine that may be required. How do I get referred for an existing eye condition? If you need a medical assessment or treatment for an existing eye condition, you can choose where you would like that assessment. If you choose to be seen at your locally accredited eCare Clinic, then your GP or optometrist will make an initial referral toEvolutio’s ophthalmology unit. Then we can clinically review and check suitability for you to use theeCare Medical Eye Service. If we approve the referral, we will let your local eCare Clinic know and theywill then contact you to make an appointment at your earliest convenience. How is eCare governed and regulated? All our eCare locations operate under our clinical and operational governance framework, mandatingthat the service is undertaken with adherence to a number of policies. Compliance checks are regularlyundertaken to ensure practices and optometrists are observing the eCare rigorous protocols andpolicies that underpin the eCare plan.

eCare FAQsHow much will I pay?The amount you pay is dependent upon the outcomes fromyour initial appointment with your eCare clinician.Generally, plans can range from £14.99 per month (£180 peryear) up to £24.99 per month (£299 per year). Your InitialAppointment fee will be at the discretion of your eCareclinician and should be discussed prior to the appointmentoccurring. How do I pay?You can choose to either pay monthly (0% APR) or annually at youreCare Clinic opticians. What visual health conditions does the eCare programmecover?eCare can cover a range of eye conditions, including but not limited to Glaucoma Management,Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Red Eye/Blepharitis, and Ocular Hypertension. Ask youreCare optometrist for more details on your specific visual health needs and if they will be covered. How often will I visit my eCare Practice? This will depend on which eCare plan level the eCare optometrist recommends at your initialconsultation. If your visual health requires regular monitoring, you may need to attend appointmentstwo or three times a year.Your particular plan price will anticipate this, so you won’t incur further charges, regardless of how oftenyou are seen at your eCare Clinic. Are there any additional costs in the eCare Service? All your appointments within the calendar year, including all your diagnostics and telemedicine arecovered by your annual plan price. Please note that the service does not cover the cost of any prescription issued, glasses or contactlenses prescribed. What is the difference between an Optometrist and a Dispensing Optician? When we talk about visiting the opticians for a routine check-up, invariably you will have your sight tested and eyes examined by an optometrist. An optometrist can identify signs and symptoms of disease in the eyes, as well as problems with general health. A dispensing optician by contrast is not permitted to diagnose or treat eye diseases. They design, verify and fit eyeglass lenses, frames, contact lenses and other devices to correct eyesight.
What is an Ophthalmologist? An ophthalmologist is an eye doctor that specialises in the medical and surgical care of eyes and the visual system. An ophthalmologist has a higher level of training than an optometrist and has the ability to provide prescription only medications, as well as a diagnosis. What are my responsibilities? You are responsible for keeping to your agreed appointment times and follow- ups with the eCare Clinic. Equally so it is your responsibility to follow the eCare optometrist’s advice. If you miss appointments and /or disregard advice provided or do not adhere to prescriptions or treatment plans issued, then you will be personally responsible for any related adverse effects to your visual or general health. Additional fees reasonably incurred forrescheduled examinations, and treatments which otherwise could have been avoided may also becharged. If you are unable to attend an appointment for any reason, then you should give as muchnotice as possible to the eCare Clinic. If you miss more than two consecutive eCare Clinic appointments without good reason, then you maybe discharged from the eCare plan back to the care of your GP.What should I do if I have an emergency? In the event of an eye emergency you should in the first instance contact your optometrist the sameday. You may be required to go directly to hospital Accident and Emergency.Indications of an emergency eye condition would include, but are not limited to, the followingsymptoms, as specified by the College of Optometrists: Chemical injuries Penetrating injuries Sudden severe ocular pain Sudden loss or distortion of vision Sudden and significant increase in floatersIf you are in any doubt to a change in your vision presenting a risk ofimminent sight loss or an emergency, then attending Accident andEmergency is the most appropriate course of action. How are we regulated?eCare clinicians are registered with either the GMC or GOCaccordingly and operate all clinical policies andprotocols as per National Institute of Clinical Excellenceguidelines. How do I sign up?You can either speak to your eCare Clinician or contactour eCare team on 0203 7807860 or [email protected] to discuss your options.

Regular eye testsRegular eye tests are important to maximise your vision and make sure your eyes are healthy andwhether you require any spectacles. eCare does not provide assessment of spectacle correctionand you should maintain your regular eye tests with your preferred optometrist. They can pick upearly signs of eye disease before you’re aware of any symptoms, many of which can be treated iffound early enough. Your eCare optometrist will check for a range of eye diseases at the front andback of the eyes including macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataract. If you already wear glasses or contact lenses, remember to take them with you to your all eyeappointments. You may be asked to wear them during the test.SmokingIt’s no secret that cigarette smoking is linked to many health problems, or that it’s the leadingworldwide cause of preventable death. Not as well known are the damaging effects it can haveon the eyes and your vision. Researchers have found that tobacco use can contribute to certainsight-threatening conditions.AlcoholWe all know alcohol can affect our bodies negatively, and these effects can be both short andlong term. But what exactly does alcohol do to our eyes? Excessive alcohol intake damages organssuch as the brain and liver. In the eye you might experience short-term changes such as blurredand double vision which cause dizziness and impaired co-ordination. The eyes are less able to worktogether as a pair (due to muscle weakness) and in the long term the optic nerve can becomedamaged due to alcohol toxicity causing reduced vision and tunnel vision.DietProtecting your eyes starts with the food on your plate. Studies show that a regular intake of dietarynutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc and vitamins C & E might help ward off age-related vision problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts. These can be found in thefollowing foods:Green leafy vegetables Oranges and other citrus fruitsSalmon, tuna, and other oily fish Oysters and porkEggs, nuts, beans, and non-meatprotein sourcesEating a well-balanced diet helps you maintain a healthy weight, which makes you less likely toget obesity-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes; diabetes is theleading cause of blindness in adults.SunshineNever look at the sun directly, even during an eclipsebecause it can cause irreversible damage to youreyesight and even lead to blindness. Children areespecially at risk from the harmful effects ofsunlight and studies suggest that sunlightexposure is a risk factor for cataracts andmacular degeneration.
