From your President, I can’t believe we are almost half way through the year! Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets to our Mother’s Day Raffle. We sold 357 tickets and raised $578.34 profit. Huge thank you to our sponsors featured on page 5-. Without their generosity, this raffle would not have been possible. I’d encourage our members to support these businesses who supported our club. Our Winter Pie Drive fundraiser is in full swing, check out all the details on page 7vv and make sure your order is in by 17th July. Our family loved the convenience of having pies in the freezer for a quick and easy meal last winter. In May we celebrated our multi mum’s with a delicious child free high tea at the Stonemill Patisserie in North Rocks. May also saw us gathering online and in person for our Annual General Meeting. We filled most of our committee roles and reflected on the year that has been. Thank you must go to our outgoing committee members Nicole Chapman, Kimberley Chapman, Lauren Wray, Jen Mills, Laura Mobbs, Charlotte Giorelando and Chloë Staniszewska for your contributions to making our club the success that it is. We are still seeking a New Parent Coordinator to support our New Parents. Please reach out if you think you might be able to assist with this role or have any questions about what it involves. Keep an eye on our facebook page for all our playgroup and social events. If you aren't yet on our closed facebook group join here. Emma Innes (Mum to Lily & Toby - 7 years) [email protected] About the North West Sydney Multiple Birth Association 3 Founded in 1972, North West Sydney Multiple Birth Association (NWSMBA) is a volunteer run, not-for-profit community association that provides members with support from other member families around the issues relating to raising multiple birth children. Our goals are to provide a means of communication for sharing information on the care and raising of multiple birth children and to provide regular social meetings and functions for our members.
NWSMBA Mother’s Day Celebrations On the 7th of May, NWSMBA mums were treated to a child free afternoon out to celebrate Mothers Day. Eight mums got together for a high tea at the Stonemill Patisserie in North Rocks. The afternoon was spent enjoying a delicious spread of food and coffee, while sharing stories of what our kids are up to. Between us, we had a wide range of ideas to bounce around, from the unique challenges of newborns to preparing for puberty and high school. There were also many laughs to be had as we shared anecdotes of the antics our multiples manage to perform…proving that more than one is twice as fun! NWSMBA Mother’s Day Raffle Winners Congratulations to our raffle winners. We sold 357 tickets, raising $578.34. These funds wll go towards running our events dueing the 2nd half of the year. AMBA National Board Update North West Sydney Multiple Birth Association is proud to be an affiliated club of the Australian Multiple Birth Association. AMBA is proud to be 100% volunteer run, and assists local affiliated clubs through providing governance support (including insurance) and the advocation of issues facing families of multiples. AMBA also provides members of affiliated clubs with free resources such as negotiated discounts and the Webinar Series. A portion of your membership fees goes to AMBA to help cover the costs involved to provide this service to the families of multiples across Australia. Australian Government’s review of the Marketing in Australia of Infant Formula Agreement (MAIF) This month AMBA provided feedback on the Australian Government’s consultation on the Review of the MAIF (the Review). AMBA were directly involved in the consultation by meeting with the independent consultants conducting the Review, and by providing a survey response online. AMBA believes it is important to advocate for the multiple birth community in this Review as our families experience disparity in how they are supported and considered in policy making. AMBA wants to improve access to quality, safe and adequate feeding options for multiple birth families, including breast milk substitutes for those families that need it. AMBA’s survey response to the consultation on the MAIF Agreement Review can be found here. Convention 2023 The 2023 AMBA National Convention will be held at the Canberra Rex Hotel in Canberra, ACT from 27-29 October. Registration opens in June. Early bird prices will be available - so watch this space! The Convention Planning Committee is still inviting speakers and topics for the convention. If you have a speaker you want to refer or an idea you’d like to share, please email [email protected]. For more information on this event go to the Convention Information Sheet. 8

NPMT & Playdays We had a strong start to the term 2 of Playdays! It was wonderful to see each other again after the holiday break for some fun in the fresh air while the weather was warm, and we welcomed our New Parents to our Monday Playgroup this term. Overall we’ve hosted 7 multiple families over the course of the term (7 playdays, and 2 new parent families). As is usual for term 2, attendances dropped a bit once the cooler weather hit, with a number of us battling illnesses in the later weeks and some sessions reluctantly needing to be cancelled. While we miss seeing our friends, we also appreciate everyone taking the time to rest and recover as needed. This term the children enjoyed getting their little fingers working and creative juices flowing making a colourful Mother’s Day card for their Mummies. We celebrated Dinosaur Day wearing our dinosaur outfits, and hiding and rescuing our dinosaur figures in playdough. And we had an excursion to Bernie Mullane Playground for a change of scenery. A highlight for the children this term was definitely the days that “tickle monster” and “whisper Monster” came to visit judging by their excited squeals and beaming smiles! Next term we have a few exciting things planned, We will be visiting the Dentist on August 7th, and we also have some other guest speakers and events in the pipeline, so keep your eye out on the Facebook event each week to keep on top of what we have in store! Playdays runs 10-12 each Monday during school term at Restore Church in Castle Hill, and is free for members. Our next session will be on 24th July 2023. Multiples and siblings welcome! Mel, Playdays Coordinator [email protected] 13
Buddy Needed… We are looking for new volunteer(s) for the role of New Parent Coordinator. Our New Parent Morning Tea (NPMT) is a vital resource and place of respite for new parents of multiples from all over north west Sydney. In the 50 year history of our club, it's the one service we have strived to offer as it adds so much value at such a critical time. If you can help us coordinate NPMT in Castle Hill on Mondays, 10am - 12pm during school terms, please email [email protected]. Our Playdays group also runs on Mondays with amazing coordinator Melanie Hugo currently facilitating the all ages playgroup. She'd love a buddy to take the lead with the 0-2 families. We promise the more you can give, the more you’ll get out of our club. 14
Mini Multiples & More Term 2 saw us say goodbye for now to our wonderful Mardi space. We were lucky to enjoy some lovely weather for the few weeks we had there. Then we headed off to Gosford RSL and their Mini Mania play space to try something new. Fully enclosed and inside was already a winner but coffee and beautiful cakes added in has made it a perfect winter warmer. Hope to see some new and regular faces soon! We’ll keep meeting at the RSL in Term 3 before heading back to Mardi for Term 4. Hannah Jarman Expectant Parent Coordinator [email protected] 15
