LIVE LIFE TO THE FULL WHILE WE DO THE CHORES
SAFE, HAPPY AND CONTENT A PLACE TO CALL YOUR OWN Cedar House residents are delighted to call this blissful place their home. For that’s exactly what it is – the safe, trouble-free sanctuary where you feel joyful and relaxed … independent and social … at ease with yourself and the world. You have a comfortable room of your own, plenty of friends to keep you laughing, and as many activities as you need to stay alert, active and learning. In the right setting, life slots into place Cedar House feels like home because we make it work for you. We know that you value your independence and that you’re used to doing things your way. So we do what we can to help you stay independent. We give you all the individual care and personal attention we’d lavish on our own parents. That’s the magic of Cedar House. Everyone thinks of it as their own home. Everyone feels like they truly belong in our lively, carefree community.
CATCH THE SUN OR CATCH A COFFEE WITH FRIENDS Cedar House makes space for everyone – for thoughtful people who value time to themselves, for gregarious types who love nothing more than a good natter, and for everyone in between. You get a feel for life in this relaxed environment, the moment you step into our light and airy reception area. To your right is our sunny café. Beyond that, through French doors, is a grassy, flower-filled courtyard. Our popular café is one of five indoor communal areas; the courtyard is one of two sun-catching outdoor spaces with benches. We have our own hairdressing salon plus Wi-Fi and superfast broadband throughout the building. Our hairdresser visits once a week; the chiropodist, every few weeks; and we hold once- a-week pampering sessions. Take your pick of what life has to offer Wherever you go, there are friends to chat to, activities to join, or quiet corners filled with sunshine. You choose who you want to talk to, and where and how you want to spend your time. You do whatever suits your mood, which is exactly how life should be.
WRAPPED IN CARE, COMFORT AND AFFECTION AT EASE IN YOUR OWN PRIVATE SPACE At Cedar House you feel relaxed, comfortable and private. You have a smartly furnished room to yourself, and the freedom to adapt it to your own style – with your own new furniture or with furniture and treasured photographs and ornaments from your own home. Shut the door, do your own thing This is your space – your private retreat from the world for reading, listening to music, watching TV, or chatting online with friends and family. All private rooms have an ensuite washbasin and WC. Most have ensuite showers, and many have an external door that opens to a sunny courtyard. Your room at Cedar House puts you at the centre of a network of attentive, round-the-clock service and affectionate care. Nothing is too much trouble. You’re part of the family, so we care for you the way we’d care for one of our own family.
READY TO KEEP THINKING, LEARNING, LAUGHING NEVER A DULL MOMENT We want you to grab life with both hands. This is your home, so you can come and go as you please. There’s plenty to do nearby for days out with the family – and even more to do when you’re at home. Never short of an answer for ‘what shall we do today?’ If you love trying out new activities – or sticking to the traditional ones you know and love – there’s no reason to slow down now. From IT sessions to pet therapy, from quizzes to karaoke, from Zumba to volleyball, and from art classes to video-making, your week is packed with laughter and inspiration. If you want to tend plants in the garden or the greenhouse, bake a cake for visitors, or contribute to the weekly newsletter, you can do it. The driving force behind this endless flow of inventiveness is Sally, our Activities Co-ordinator. She’s brimming with ideas, and eager to find out what you enjoy. Fancy turning your hand to something new? Let’s give it a go. At Cedar House, you never stop learning.
THE TEAM THAT MAKES LIFE EFFORTLESS MORE LIKE FRIENDS THAN CARERS The happy atmosphere at Cedar House reflects the liveliness of our residents and the enthusiasm of a team led by our lovely Manager, Lisa. We’re a bit like one big happy family. We laugh together, we make a point of listening to what you have to say, we share the moments of joy and sadness. To be surrounded by friends is the icing on the cake Whatever you need, we’re here to help. We take time to talk about the things you love, to give you a hand if you’re unsteady on your feet, to share a joke or to connect you to the outside world via the internet. And behind the scenes we do all the chores that you no longer need to worry about. You don’t have to lift a finger because we do everything to keep you safe, contented and at ease with the world. Imagine living in a delightful country-house hotel staffed by smiling friends. That’s how it is at Cedar House.
COOKED AND BAKED FRESH EVERY DAY THE FOOD YOU LOVE Meal times are joyful get-togethers at Cedar House – twice-daily opportunities to catch up on the gossip while enjoying some fabulous food. The choice about where and how you dine is yours. You can join your fellow residents in either of our two dining rooms or eat in the peace and quiet of your own room. If you’re still feeling peckish, we serve snacks and hot drinks three times a day to every room in the building. And you can always pop into our onsite café, Cedaccino’s. Old favourites with our own twist We know residents love our food because we’re constantly checking that we’ve got our menus right, and that there’s enough choice in each one. At lunch, for example, you can choose from two mains and two desserts. The variety is what makes dining at Cedar House so appealing. With 28 lunches and 28 dinners on our fortnightly rolling menu, there’s always something tasty to look forward to.
VALUED MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY AT THE HEART OF LOCAL LIFE Cedar House residents are not the sort to shut themselves off from the world. Quite the opposite: they throw themselves into community life with the spirited enthusiasm of old hands. They even have their own column in the local parish magazine. Out there making our presence felt Residents raise funds for local charities, and work with a range of projects to encourage young people to take work-experience placements in care homes. Local musicians and performers are frequent visitors, performing in person and online, while children from nearby schools and nurseries delight in sharing songs, stories, and games with a generation that’s never lost its sense of fun. We’re valued members of the community because our residents have so much to offer. When there’s a job to be done, they bring their years of experience working in church groups, the WI, the armed forces and local government. We give as good as we get.
