Cedar House in Leicestershire Please note that we welcome correspondence by email to • [email protected] October has been another busy month for us at Cedar House... We continue to try old and new things! A BIG HELLO FROM ALL AT CEDAR HOUSE! Lot’s of love from all the residents and This month the residents had a go at staff. DEBATE IT! It was a little like Question Time. The residents were all asked various questions and they were all asked to express their views e.g. ‘Should children do homework?’ Now what did you think they said? How well do you know your relate/ friend? 1|Page

A Sing-a-long with Gladys Gladys was in full voice this morning at Cedar House in Rothley! Gladys sang a long to well known songs with Poppy and Hannah in her room and then brought the music into the lounge. Walks Walks/ fresh air and walks were also on the agenda. 2|Page

Pamper Sessions & One to One Sessions As well as pamper sessions, at Cedar House in Rothley, the residents enjoyed one to one time with Sally. For example, Barbara had a Skype call with her son and then enjoyed reminiscing about family, friends, and holidays. Keep up the good work everyone! 3|Page

Exercises Our weekly exercise classes in full swing at Cedar House in Leicestershire. Lipstick Fun Sylvia loves trying different lipsticks. 4|Page

The ‘Great Nana’ Pumpkin Book Characters Hilda enjoyed looking through her The art class had fun colouring ‘Great Nana’ book created by her great pumpkin characters in time for grandchildren Harrison and Imogen. Halloween. They looked SPOOKTACULAR! 5|Page

Gardening We have been busy getting the greenhouse ready, at Cedar House in Rothley, for some gardening ideas and projects. 6|Page

What does it mean/ say to you? A Little Visitor This month residents and staff met Grace’s little daughter for the first time… Azaylia-Grace Miller.

Visitors We had lots of visitors this month. La la la la la la! The residents love seeing family and Picture Selfies & A friends! Helping Hand The more the merrier! A Sing-a-long Session We also had a sing-a-long session with staff and residents. 9|Page

Sally had some activity assistants this month... as well as doing activities both staff and residents were practicing their picture selfies. Guest Singer: Graham Tuckley The residents were entertained by Guest Singer – Graham Tuckley. There was lots of singing, jokes and laughter! 10 | P a g e

London Symphony Some of the residents, at Cedar House Orchestra Concert in Rothley, watched the London for Care Homes Symphony Orchestra concert for care homes on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th October 2021. The link remains live for 24hrs from the 7th October 2021. ‘As a big thank you to care home staff and residents for their hard work and resilience during the pandemic, Bristol Beacon are to live stream tonight’s London Symphony Orchestra concert with Sir Simon Rattle in Bath to care homes across the country. For one night only, the concert will be broadcast live via YouTube at 7.15pm on Thursday 7 October. Any care home in the country can tune in for free to this special thank you broadcast.’ The ‘Called Together Service’ held at Leicester Cathedral On Saturday 9th October 2021 Joan enjoyed watching her son, Richard, being ordained as a Lay Minister via zoom. 11 | P a g e

One to one time… From chatting, reading, jigsaws, walks etc. Sally, our Activities Co-ordinator, spent some time getting to know the new residents. The ‘Called Together Service’, was Family and held at Leicester Cathedral. The Gardening preacher was Mr Robin Bardon, the Director of Innovation at Ridley Hall College in Cambridge. Pamper sessions are go at Cedar House in Rothley – nails and hair! Some residents have chosen a vibrant colour, whereas others have chosen a more subtle colour. Looking beautiful/ handsome everyone! A Morning of Therapy 14 | P a g e

Visualisation It was very relaxing… Some of the residents enjoyed a therapy session with Helen. The session consisted of: Singing Chair yoga Self hand massage Relaxation breathing Progressive muscle relaxation 15 | P a g e

Metcalf Multisports The residents enjoyed playing various games with Harry from Metcalf Multisports this month. 16 | P a g e

SG Productions On Friday 15th October 2021 the residents were entertained by SG Productions. There was lots of singing, dancing and costumes changes all in time for Halloween. Food Tasting 17 | P a g e

Orchids Margaret tended to the orchids this month. We have a lovely selection at the home. They love the climate and atmosphere. This morning we had a Greek food tasting session at Cedar House in Leicestershire. The residents are having a think of where to visit next. 19 | P a g e

A Coffee in the Cafe After first reading a short article about the Battle of Lepanto in the Cedar House Weekly Newspaper a couple of weeks ago Kenneth recalled studying a bit about it at school, but couldn’t remember a lot of detail. As a result he decided to do some more in depth research with Sally’s help and has now created his own comments/ understanding of the battle. 20 | P a g e
