คำคุณศัพท์คืออะไร คำคุณศัพท์ในภาษาอังกฤษ เรียกกันว่า Adjective หรือย่อว่า Adj. ทำหน้าที่ขยายคำ นามหรือสรรพนามที่อยู่ในประโยค คำนามหรือ สรรพนามก็คือ คน สัตว์ สิ่งของ สถานที่ นั่นเอง ทำหน้าที่ขยายในที่นี้เพื่อบอกให้รู้ว่าคำ นามหรือสรรพนามเหล่านั้นมีลักษณะอย่างไร เช่น สูง ต่ำ ดำ ขาว ใหญ่ เล็ก เลว ดี ฯลฯ โดย คำคุณศัพท์ จะวางอยู่ในส่วนต่าง ๆ ในประโยค

วางขยายหน้าคำนามนั้น ๆ เช่น She wants a red rose from her boyfriend. (เธออยากได้กุหลาบแดงสักดอกจากแฟนของเธอ) I saw a fat boy yesterday. (ฉันเห็นเด็กผู้ชายอ้วนๆ คนหนึ่งเมื่อวานนี้) She is a good girl. (เธอเป็นเด็กผู้หญิงที่ดีคนหนึ่ง)

วางไว้หลัง Verb to be (be, is, am, are, was, were, been) เช่น The rose is beautiful. (ดอกกุหลาบดอกนั้นสวยจัง) I am bored. (ฉันรู้สึกเบื่อ) She was happy yesterday. (เธอมีความสุขมากเมื่อวานนี้)

วางไว้หลังกริยาเชื่อม (Linking Verb) เช่น look, sound, taste, feel เช่น You look beautiful in this dress. (คุณดูสวยในชุดเดรสชุดนี้นะ) The soup tastes good. (ซุปชามนี้รสชาติดีจัง) I feel bad today. (ฉันรู้สึกแย่จังเลยวันนี้)

การแบ่งประเภทของคำคุณศัพท์ นอกจากนี้ คำคุณศัพท์ยังจำแนกได้เป็นประเภท ต่าง ๆ ทั้งหมด 8 ประเภท 1. คำคุณศัพท์บอกลักษณะ (Descriptive Adjective) เช่น good, bad, fat, thin, red, white, smart, poor 2. คุณศัพท์บอกสัญชาติ (Proper Adjective) เช่น Thai, Japanese, Chinese, German, English 3. คำคุณศัพท์บอกปริมาณ (Quantitative Adjective) เช่น much, little, some, any, all

4. คำคุณศัพท์บอกจำนวน (Numeral Adjective) เช่น one, two, three, first, second, third, single, double, triple 5. คำคุณศัพท์แบ่งแยก (Distributive Adjective) เช่น each, every, either, neither 6. คำคุณศัพท์บอกคําถาม (Interrogative Adjective) เช่น What, Which, Whose 7. คำคุณศัพท์ชี้เฉพาะ (Demonstrative Adjective) เช่น this, that, these, those 8. คำคุณศัพท์แสดงความเป็นเจ้าของ (Possessive Adjective) เช่น my, your, our, his, her
