The Cowboy and the Wolf Illustrated by Norbu Lhaden
A young boy called Dorji lived with his father in a small village.
His father would send Dorji to look after their flock of cattle while he did other works.
They set out their journey to the pasture in the nearby village. He let his cattles graze in the open field while he sat down on the ground and took some rest.
After few hours while Dorji was tending to his cattle, he thought it would be so much fun to prank the villagers by pretending that a wolf was attacking the cattle.
He then imagined the situation that might probably happen if he played the prank.
So, he shouted out on top of his voice, “Wolf! Wolf!”
The villagers, terrified, came running up towards him but only to see him laughing at their pains.
As a young boy, Dorji enjoyed troubling people and did the same thing more than once, and every time the villagers found they have been tricked as there was no wolf at all.
At last, when a wolf really did come, he shouted and cried as loud as he could, “Wolf! Wolf!”.
But the villagers had gotten so used to his pranks that they did not bother going out to help.
And so, the wolf killed many cattle, and the boy had to run for his life. Moral: You cannot believe a liar even when he tells the truth.
