Barbie South Africa (June 2017)

Published by Flip eBook Library, 2020-03-15 10:58:40

Description: Barbie has been around for more than 50 years and is arguably the biggest girl’s toy brand in the world. Barbie magazine teaches young girls that they can aspire to be whatever they want to be. Barbie promotes the values of kindness, friendship and dedication – and Barbie magazine reflects this. With lots of educational stories, activities and games, it keeps girls, aged 3 to 10, busy for hours and also encourages parent-child interaction.

Little girls will be excited to hear that their favorite magazine about their favorite doll, Barbie, is now available digitally. This means parents can Barbie magazine right onto their computer, iPad or Android tablet or phone to entertain their daughters with hours of glitz and glamour. Each issue is packed with fun Barbie activities that young ladies will have a blast trying out. They’ll learn to make Barbie cards and Barbie jewelry, figure out great puzzles, get instructions for seasonal crafts like snowflake picture frames and mermaid jewelry boxes, etc.

Features

• Exciting stories featuring Barbie and her friends every month
• Previews about upcoming Barbie movies
• Competitions and giveaways
• Letters page allows little girls to write to their favourite characterand get responses
• Loads of activities to keep little girls entertained

In addition to the fun activities, each digital issue of Barbie contains confidence and self esteem building articles like the “I Can Be…” series that highlights a different career in each issue that little girls may not have thought of such as becoming an architect or a doctor. They will receive cute fashion tips like adding sparkle to the closet and hair style ideas. They’ll also have chances to win great Barbie gear like swimming pools, DVDs, video games, and books. In addition to all that, they’ll read interesting (and tame) interviews with their favorite stars. Every little girl should have a chance to read this digital magazine.

Tips for MomPlay features prominently in child development, so turn off the TV and let your daughter get down to the business of being a child. Children naturally love to play ‘pretend’ – a bicycle becomes a motorbike, a doll becomes a baby and a box can become a house. It’s good for children to learn to play on their own – without adults having to constantly entertain them – not just for the parents’ sake, but for the children’s too. Playing alone requires more imagination, as children can invent their own games and scenarios. Let them come up with games and, if they ask you, join them by taking on the role they assign to you. You may find yourself being a mommy lion while your child is the baby, or you may be the student in her class while she is the teacher. To encourage role-playing games, provide the materials your child needs (dress-up sets, props or toy kitchens, for example) and, if necessary, initiate some scenarios that allow your child’s imagination to run wild.It may be fun to watch TV or play games on a tablet, but the best way to learn while having fun is to play games using just your imagination! The possibilities are endless! You can be a doctor, a teacher or even a mermaid!IMAGINE … JUSTIt’s so much fun to use your imagination. It allows you to be anythingyou want to be!12 MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME

games to try with Mom 86Pretend to be a waiter by setting the table and serving dinner. Pretend to be a chef by helping in the kitchen. Be a beautician by putting make-up on Mom. The list is endless; imagine all the possibilities.5Stick two toilet roll tubes together and decorate your new ‘binoculars’. Tell Mom what you see or ask Mom to describe an object in the room for you to look for.1Make a car out of dining room chairs placed side-by-side. Use a plastic plate as a steering wheel, and make car noises as you ‘drive’ along. 3Get a set of plastic or stuffed animals. Use the internet or a book to look up what these animals eat and what their natural environment is. Now, create a zoo/farm habitat with everything the animal needs. Perhaps you could draw or paint a scene, gather leaves from the garden as food or make a pond from a bowl of water. Have even more fun by telling Mom everything you have learned about each animal.4Get some coins and notes (toy money or real money) and play banker. Mom can be the customer. Draw up some deposit slips and count the money Mom gives you, or have her make a withdrawal (count out the money and give it to her).8 Play ‘doctor doctor’. Make up illnesses or injuries for your teddy bears or dolls and ‘fix’ them. Ask Mom to give you plasters, bandages and sweets like Smarties to use as tablets.2What do you want to be when you grow up? Dress up as a person in that profession. Ask Mom to tell you what that person actually does, and then act some scenes out together. If you are a teacher, teach Mom how to spell some words, for example.7Choose a country and ask Mom to help you research it. Now, create an evening themed on that country together. Help Mom prepare food from that country, and you and your family can all dress up for the meal.13 MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME MOM&ME

28HEALING HELPERSToday, I spent the day volunteering at a hospital! It was great! I mostly got to help with the basics, like organising medical supplies and bringing food to patients. But I got to see everything that goes on in a hospital, which was very cool. I was excited when they asked me to help a little girl who wouldn’t stop crying. She had fallen at school, and when they brought her to the emergency room she was A doctorA doctorA doctor

A DOCTOR’S GUIDE TO SUCCESS!29Being a doctor isn’t easy, but it allows you to help people feel better every day!crying so hard that the doctors couldn’t examine her. So they asked me if I could help them calm her down. They wanted to make sure her arm wasn’t broken. That poor girl! She was a mess! She was holding her shoulder in pain, and her hands were all scraped up. I kept calm and just started talking to her. I asked her what her name was (it was Kaylee) and about her rainbow-coloured shoelaces (Chelsea has the same ones!). Finally, she stopped crying. I had distracted her enough for the doctors to examine her arm. Luckily, Kaylee’s arm wasn’t broken, just bruised. I stayed with her a little longer, talking and colouring hearts and rainbows all over her bandages. She was feeling better by the time her parents came to get her.I had the best time helping the doctors and nurses today! They are all so caring and kind. All they want is to help their patients feel better. I think that’s something I’d like to do someday!Stay healthy, friends!Barbie xox1BE CALM. They eat fruit, leaves and shoots, and some also eat insects and small animals.3They are VERY SLOW – moving just 2m per minute when on the ground. In trees they are a little speedier at 3m per minute. Because they could never outrun a predator, they tend to stay in trees most of the time.4Because of how slow they are, creatures like beetles, moths and algae grow in their fur, but they don’t mind!
