INTERNATIONAL I am Proud to be ENGINEERING an Engineer! PROGRAM by Atul Gupta, ENE, 3rd year, 60070503822 Hi guys, I’m Atul Gupta, a third-year student of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ENE), International Program, here in KMUTT. I’m from Kolkata, India, and I moved to Bangkok, Thailand since the beginning of my tertiary schooling period, successfully graduated from a prestigious international school and later joined KMUTT as an undergraduate student. Why study in the International Where is the right path? Engineering Program? Personally, I believe there is no simplified, When I was planning to enroll in KMUTT classified and organized right path. You have as a full-time undergraduate student, I had to keep putting in the effort until the time two options: either join the Thai program or you reach your goal, and keep on pushing the International program. But first, let me your barriers until you get the ultimate feeling slightly elaborate on both the differences of satisfaction and comfort. In my case, I try and the similarities between the two choices to get involved with something new all the of programs. Both programs fall under the time. For example, learning the Japanese same department, which means that the language is my latest passion. content of education is exactly the same, both programs are mostly taught by the same Personal experiences… professors (Ajarn), but only the preference of My personal experiences have been classroom language changes. What are the benefits? As far as I know, especially in Thailand, being able to graduate from an international program or English program (some universities offer courses in English programs which means that all classes are not completely in English) gets you a slightly higher pay scale. Furthermore, it is much easier to enroll into other foreign and Thai universities for higher education like master degree and doctorate degree with an undergraduate degree in an international/English language program. The last byenior I attended me. I am from Bandung, Indonesia and currently on my 3rd-year was themed ‘Back to the 90s’. and I feel like I finally got the hang of it. I remember being in my first year, feeling clueless about the customs and culture Overall, I love studying in the environmental differences, not to forget the language barrier which for me was engineering department at KMUTT. From a very young age, I was exposed to computers and Anyone interested in electronics and wanting to various kinds of electronics, more so than the average child in study in a good university in a different country with a Bangladesh. This was mostly because many of my uncles reasonable tuition should consider KMUTT’s ENE studied or worked in an IT department. As a result, I got very department. fond of these devices, and I wanted to know how they worked and how to operate them. Studying in the Electronics & Telecommunication department (ENE) in KMUTT helped me understand and gain the knowledge that I wanted. The program, as its title suggests, covers both electronics and electrical communication. But the best part of the department is the professors and the staff members who are mostly very easy to talk to and very approachable. They helped me out a lot when I asked them for assistance with my problems. 3 Year 8 | Volume 15 | October 2019

We are International! By Phantira Kusolruangchai, ENE, 61070503811 Currently, I am studying in my second year in the field of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ENE). Just before the end of my first year, I registered to be a staff member in the ISCP program. Unexpectedly, ISPC became the starting point of my memorable summer vacation. During the last summer vacation, This camp was arranged for high I w a s a s t a ff m e m b e r i n t h e 8 t h school students to know about KMUTT International Senior Project Conference. and my major, ENE. My fourth program where I was a staff member was ENE First Meet which was arranged to welcome ENE’s freshmen. We provided a n u m b e r o f activities that enabled freshmen to know each other. Finally, the last program that I registered for was the KMUTT Buddy program. This program is for welcoming all overseas students that are exchange, internship or regular study students in KMUTT. There are a lot of activities for them to know about Thailand such as Thai language class, Thai cooking class, culture tour, etc.. I attended as a staff member in all these programs because I wanted to develop my English skills. Indeed, I have received things that are much more important than English skills. There are things that cannot be found in any classroom — experience, teamwork skills and confidence. International Experience and Internship in France By Phongsathorn Chuisrikaeo, 4th year, MCE, 59070502209 As an internship is one of the important tasks that every 3rd year engineering student should be concerned with, I have fortunately had an opportunity to go to Lyon in France in order to do a research. Before I went there, I had only expected that I would have to do lots of work, but after the first step, I changed my mind. Annecy, the French Venice ECAM Lyon, located near Lyon’s old town, is where I went for at the Jet d’eau, Geneva, Switzerland an internship. Established in 1900, ECAM Lyon ties research, education and innovation to follow shifts in industry and business. There is no doubt that this is one of the best schools of engineering in France. After I worked there for 2 months, I found out why they earned this reputation. There is a variety of fields of research, which are running all the time, and all of them have high standards. They have not only a good system of researching, but their professionalism and integrity are also beyond question. As every student can access all of the high-tech machines, tools and engineering equipment, it is not difficult at all to create some inventions. 5 Year 8 | Volume 15 | October 2019

Later in the evening, we went for a city tour to Shinkuchan Market where we performed missions assigned to us. At the end of the day, we had dinner and worked on assigned topics for the meeting to be held the next day. On our 3rd day, a program called “Meeting Session” was held where directors along with other respected staff members stated the difference in meeting and debate. This program’s concern was to raise awareness about considering team goals to be the major point rather than to push contents that only specific people could benefit from. Then prizes were distributed for the best speaker for which three KMUTT students were nominated. Later, we headed towards debate preparation whose topics were provided the night before! We all kept awake until late at night working in groups where we were trying to come up with amazing ideas to be able to tackle debaters on stage. Finally, the debate session was conducted on the 4th day, when all were assigned whom to speak against and for the topic given. Finally, the activity ended up bagging us 1 outstanding debater and 2 outstanding performer awards. Later that day, students came up with group presentations performing dance, singing, martial arts etc. in the cultural night party. We also had Apart from working on a research project, I had a chance a chance to visit Ruifeng Night Market and the place to observe how beautiful France was, as ECAM staff usually was marvelous. Stage Lopen in Nederland By Fairuzia Natakusuma, CVE, 4th Year, 59070503232 For my summer internship, I decided to go to The Netherlands. It was a big decision to make. Almost everyone from my department - my advisor, lecturers, and staff - recommended me to have an internship abroad due to language difficulties that I might encounter if I apply to a Thai company. So, the options were narrowed down into whether I go back to my own country for an internship or follow the available program at ICE. I chose the latter and thus went to HZ University of Applied Sciences as it is available for civil engineering and water resource study. The Netherlands is a very nice place. I lived in a small city on the southern part of the country called Vlissingen. It is a very small town, near a big river, and you can actually tour the whole town with a bike. HZ has two campuses, in Vlissingen and Middelburg. Both cities are close to each other, so I could commute easily with a bike. The public transport is pretty expensive, especially if you stay there for only a short time. Both campuses are quite small but equipped with good technology and services. All the transactions inside the campus can be done by a student ID card, so you have to top it up with enough money. The printer, the vending machine, or if you want to get a cup of coffee or tea, everything can be purchased by tapping your student card. Everything is convenient and fast. I had meticulously planned my budget for the internship. My parents paid for flight tickets and rent; the rest was by my own. I received a multi-intellectual scholarship from KMUTT, which is provided for students from ASEAN countries. The scholarship waived my tuition fees and gave enough allowance per month which I always saved. Furthermore, you can apply for a student mobility program, which gives you an extra 10,000 – 15,000 THB, depends on which country you go to. There are also a few extra scholarship programs you can apply for, though very limited, like Erasmus+ if you’re interested in EU countries. Moreover, when your internship is finished, you still have a lot of time before the semester start to plan an EU trip! Happy internship! Year 8 | Volume 15 | October 2019 8
BUDDY PROGRAM “Wel to KUT! A Student Buddy is someone who promotes international cultural exchange with Thai students and communes with foreigners. So why did Initially, I started as a Buddy in the English Camp at the School of I join the Liberal Arts. During this camp, I became sociable and enjoyed buddies program? exchanging cultures with foreigners. I turned out to be energetic, patient and inspired to speak English well. I wanted to learn the cultural differences and improve my English speaking skills for work abroad or internship in the future. So, I have been involved in the buddy program for a year now. What does Whenever we have an international student exchange in KMUTT, my role the buddy is to pick them up at the airport and take good care of them during their do? studies at KMUTT as an exchange student. I give them a short campus tour and assistance about basic information in Thailand such as where to buy a SIM card and other know-how, such as how to order food in a restaurant in Thai? By the way, we contact their accommodations or their dormitories for check-in and help out whenever they have problems. Best Actually, the whole experience of being a buddy was the best experience experience because I met a lot of international students from different nations and being a different exchange programs. Every program had good things and good buddy… moments. When we shared together and had different good things happening that I never saw or knew before, I can say that all of it was the best experience. 9 Year 8 | Volume 15 | October 2019
