YOU ENSURE...
access to rural health care!
Because of YOU health care is available in your rural community. Thank you! Your community is 1 of 22 Horizon medical, dental, and behavioral community health centers in South Dakota. What does Rural Care and Military Trauma Care have in common? Growth goes beyond the clinic doors, and for Paul Brown, PA-C, he’s growing his skills through the South Dakota National Guard. Since joining Horizon Health Care’s James Valley Community Health Center in 2014, Brown has provided primary care for a diverse number of rural patients in the area. In order to further his skills in trauma care, he chose to work in the heart of emergency medicine – the military. Brown is currently a Captain with the 730th MCAS (Medical Company Area Support) based in Vermillion, South Dakota. Since Basic Officers Leader Course training in August, he has been utilized for various duties, including leading a vaccination mission as the Officer in Charge (OIC) and leading discussions with soldiers regarding COVID-19. “I had the desire to train and serve and learn about the military,” said Brown. “I thought it would be a good way to learn how to fire a weapon, to learn about leadership, and to do a number of things that would typically, in the past, make me uncomfortable.” Paul Brown, PA-C Combining his military experience with his skills as a Physician Assistant, Brown has impacted many people in South Dakota, providing them with clarity and life-saving healthcare in a time of need.
\"No matter what the problem is, when you need them, They're There!\" A simple trip downstairs to grab pop for lunch became a devastating journey for the Buer family, when four-year-old granddaughter Molly slipped on her blanket and severed an artery in her arm. What started as a chance for the young girl to help her grandmother prepare lunch turned into a hectic search for towels as they tried to stop the bleeding. Dixie, Molly's grandmother, needed to act fast since the nearest Horizon clinic was over 20 miles away. Without the Bison Community Clinic staff wrapping Molly’s arm and getting her stable, Molly wouldn’t have made it to the hospital. Molly “We can get unappreciative because we’re not using the clinic on a daily basis, but what people don’t realize is our cell service is low,” said Dixie. “That clinic deals with broken arms to strokes to everything in between. No matter what the problem is, when you need them, they’re there.” MCINTOSH BISON ISABEL ABERDEEN FAITH LA PLANT EAGLE BUTTE ROOTED IN BRYANT SOUTH DAKOTA COMMUNITIES HURON LAKE PRESTON DE SMET In 5 years, Horizon employees have donated WESSPSRIINNGGTSON HOWARD over $264,000, helping FORT THOMPSON WOONSOCKET over 1,500 patients!
