RIP PAUL DUTTONPaul was our manager throughout the rise and demise of the band.Like most band managers in that era, he was making it up as he went along in a toughbusiness with no written rules. However he unquestionably had our interests at heart andalways tried to get the best outcome for us while tip-toeing through the minefield of ourfragile egos.It wasn’t an easy job. Still, he loved the band and got us places we wouldn’t have gottenunder our own steam.Cancer killed him in 1998.We probably should have made more of it then, but everything happens in its own time. This feels like a good time to say ‘Thanks, Paul. Respect.’Pete, Mark, Jim, Phil.

TALKIN’ DIRTY(Mark Tinson)I met her one night,Just hangin’ aroundThe right address on the wrong side of townWith a whisky in her left handA cigarette in her rightShe sat down next to me and asked me for a lightShe said, you can take me dancin’And buy me drinks all nightBut if you want to get me homeThere’s one thing that I likeTalkin’ dirtyShe’s talkin’ so dirty to meI made my escapeBefore she pushed things to farAnd tried to hide behind a drink at the barWhen the lady who served mePut her lips up to my earAnd what she said to meI just didn’t wanna hear. She said ‘I like it in the back seat,I like it on the floorBut if you want to win my heartThere’s one thing I like more’Pete de Jong: Lead vocal, backing vocals, guitars Angry Anderson: Lead vocalMark Tinson: Guitars, backing vocals (The Angry version)Jim Porteus: Bass guitar, backing vocalsPhil Screen: Drums, backing vocalsWords and music copyright © 2014 Mark Tinson. REDEEM ME In the breath before All hope has come and gone(Pete de Jong) There’s time enough to comprehend We all end up where we belongIn the space betweenThe tough luck and the breaks Then just like that, you reappearThere’s time enough to think about No more doubt, no screaming fearThis life and what it means to make it. Change the colour, shed your skin Don’t give up, don’t give inIn the beat between Those hollow tears are wasted hereThe judgement and the fall What’s done is done, the end is clearThere’s time enough to realise Enough, enough. You reached me nowThat you never really had it all You win. When all at once, you disappearLost in doubt and screaming fearsEnough, enough, you touched me now,You winI’ll do anything you wantIf you will redeem meAnything you wantAnd you will redeem meIn the kiss betweenThe first love and the lastThere’s time enough to understandThat nothing fills an empty pastThose hollow tears are wasted hereWhat’s done is done the end is clearEnough to take you back where you beginPete de Jong: Lead vocal, backing vocals, guitarsMark Tinson: GuitarsJim Porteus: Bass guitarPhil Screen: DrumsWords and music copyright © 2014 Pete de Jong. DON’T LOOK BACK She looks just like her mother But her brother’s daddy’s boy(Mark Tinson / Pete de Jong) without a doubt He sees a lifetime in that momentRunning out of luck, Skips a beat, crosses the street intoRunning out of love and out of time the crowdHe just took it all for grantedShe just pushed it out of sight and out of mind When you’re feeling like you’re never enoughThen one day when enough was enough There’s nothing left to give,She said, you can’t have it all, baby! so maybeIf this is all there is then I’m gone, and I won’t You’re better off out on your own,Turn around, won’t turn around no need to turn around Can’t turn aroundDon’t look backNothing’s gonna change here Don’t look backDon’t look back Everything has changed hereThis heart has turned to stone Don’t look backSitting in the dark, sifting There’s one thing I like more’Through the empty ache she left behindKnows his love’s a hopeless habitNow his pain’s the only feeling he can findWhen everything still wasn’t enough.I won’t waste a single tear on you, baby.Took all I had, now you’re gone! So don’t youTurn around, don’t turn aroundDon’t look backNothing’s gonna change hereDon’t look backThis heart has turned to stonePete de Jong: Lead vocal, backing vocals, guitarsMark Tinson: GuitarsJim Porteus: Bass guitarPhil Screen: DrumsWords and music copyright © 2014 Mark Tinson / Pete de Jong. KILLING TIME This killing time is killing me I’m not the man you hoped I’d be(Pete de Jong) Empty love and fragile trustThis killing time is killing me Seemed that we were over usI’m not the man I thought I’d beAmbitions written in the dust One thing’s for certain, plain to seeGone with the first gentle gust This killing time is killing me. Can’t count on luck, fresh out of tearsCan’t count on luck, fresh out of tears Where are we now, where to from here?Where am I now where to from hereOne thing’s for certain, plain to see So I run to youThis killing time is killing me I run I run to youCaught between some lover’s sheetsTangled up in our deceitIf actions speak a thousand wordsNo wonder I’m so seldom heardThis killing time is killing meIs this the way it had to be?Passion etched into the rustI thought that I was over usSo I run from youI run from youI run from youPete de Jong: Lead vocal, backing vocals, guitarsMark Tinson: Guitars, organ, stringsJim Porteus: Bass guitarPhil Screen: DrumsWords and music copyright © 2014 Pete de Jong. THE FALL Out of the dark Towards the healing light of day(Pete de Jong) Connect our conscience to your truthCollect the shadows Tell your storyTuck them underneath your pillow, Lay it out for everyone to seeDisconnect your conscience, Their feeble silence is your final prooflet it slowly slip away CHORUSChoose a storyOne that’s close enough to live with, When you fallwhile you We’ll be right beside youClutch at the altar mouthing empty prayers When you fall Just reach outWhen you fall When you fallThey’ll be right behind you We’ll be there to catch youWhen you fall When you fallDon’t reach out Just reach out reach outWhen you fall When you fallNo-one there to catch you Just reach outWhen you fallIt’s lights outTo think you thoughtThat you could ever be forgivenThe twisted logic that gives comfortto your gameTainted powerMyth and mindless superstitionPlayed into your hands, then you wash themin his nameThis loveless feelingJust won’t let goThis endless bleeding won’t slowThis cut runs deeperThan any painThis lie, this anger, this shamePete de Jong: Lead vocal, backing vocals, guitarsMark Tinson: GuitarsJim Porteus: Bass guitarPhil Screen: DrumsWords and music copyright © 2014 Pete de Jong. LIGHTYEARS(Mark Tinson / Pete de Jong)Heartbreak is only a heartbeat awayJust one step ahead of regret when you cross the lineWe take what we canThen choose to forgetWhat hides in the darkness of everything we’ve left behind,We’ve left behindCount down the moments til you’re here againCaught between waiting for you and walking awayThe further we goThe closer we getTo the question that’s begging for answers, can you tell me why, we tryWhen we’reWe’re light years from loveA universe awayIn a space where we can hear each other screamWe’re light years from loveGuilty of nothing less than wanting moreWe burn in the heat of our faith in a cold-hearted planWith nothing to gainAnd too much to blameThe whole world is lost in the distance between us tonightTonight, when we’reWe can put this all behind usIf we take the time to find usAnd where we are nowPete de Jong: Lead vocal, backing vocals, guitarsMark Tinson: GuitarsJim Porteus: Bass guitarPhil Screen: DrumsWords and music copyright © 2014 Mark Tinson / Pete de Jong.
