KLIMA | CLIMATE | KLIMA | CLIMA Upravo zbog klimatskih uvjeta, blagih zima, podnošljivih ljeta, stal- nog strujanja zraka, morskog aerosola, bogate vegetacije Opatija i Lovran su se razvijali kao klimatska lječilišta. Prosječna ljetna tem- peratura zraka iznosi 21,9ºC dok se temperatura mora ljeti penje do 26 ºC, a zimska 7 ºC. Od vjetrova koji pušu na Liburniji najčešći su bura, jugo, ljetni maestral i jutarnja tramontana. Zbog položaja Ri- vijere i planine Učka koja dominira nad njom, u ljetnim mjesecima sunce ranije zalazi što omogućuje bezbrižniji boravak na kupališti- ma. Godišnja insolacija iznosi 2100 sati. It is the climate i.e. mild winters, endurable summers, the constant air circulation, sea aerosol, rich vegetation that made possible for Opatija and Lovran to develop as health resorts. The average summer temperature is 21,9 ºC and during winter 7 ºC, whe- reas sea temperature reaches 26ºC during summertime. The prevailing winds in Liburnija are the north easter, so- uther, summer landward breeze and morning north wind. Due to the position of the Riviera and Učka mountain that dominates it, the sun sets early during the summer months, which enables carefree stay at the beaches. The yearly insolation amounts to 2100 hours. Wegen der Klimatischen Verhältnisse, den Milden Wintern, der hinnehmenden Sommer, der ständigen Luftströmungen, des Aerosols und der Vielfalt an Vegetation, haben sich Opatija und Lovran als Klimatische Kurorte entwickelt. Die durchschnittliche Lufttemperatur beträgt im Sommer 21,9 ºC und im Winter 7 ºC, während die Meerestemperatur im Sommer bis zu 26 ºC steigt. Von den vielen Winden die an der Liburnia Küste wehen sind die bekanntesten Bura, Jugo, Sommer Maestral und die Morgendliche Tramontana. GASTRONOMIJA • CUISINE • GASTRONOMIE • GASTRONOMIA Maslinovo ulje je temelj mediteranske kuhinje, za koje su naši pre- ci vjerovali da je sveto, a primorski začini poput lovora i ružmarina oplemenjuju brojna jela. Posebnost kuhinje su sezonski plodovi karakteristični za ovo podneblje poput šparoga, maruna i trešanja. Ne smiju se zaobići ni domaće rakije sa začinskim biljem ili medi- ca, rakija s medom, kojima će domaćini rado ponuditi svoje goste. Matulji su poznati po tipičnoj karnevalskoj hrani koja se može kušati na „Festivalu pusne hrani“ ali i u svim konobama i restoranima Ma- tujskog kraja. The olive oil provides a basis for Mediterranean cuisine. Our ancestors believed it to be holy, while sea spices such as laurel and rosemary enrich numerous dishes. The specialty of the cuisine is seasonal fruits typical for this climate, such as asparagus, chestnut and cherry. One must also not forget the homemade brandy with spice herbs or medica i.e. brandy with honey which a host will gladly offer to his guests. Matuji are well known for the typical carnival food that can be tasted on ‘Pusne hrani’ festival and also in all of taverns and restaurants near Matuji. Olivenöl ist die Basis der Mediterranischen Küche für das unsere Vorfahren glaubten dass es Heilig ist. Be- sondere Gewürze, wie Lorbeer und Rosmarin, werden als besondere Zutat vielen Gerichten sehr geschätzt. Eine Besonderheit dieser Küche sind Saisonfrüchte typisch für dieses Gebiet, wie zB. Spargeln, Kastanien und Kirschen. Man darf auch nicht die heimischen Schnäpse mit besonderen Gewürzen vergessen, oder die Medica, ein besonderer Schnaps mit Honig, welche die Gastgeber gerne anbieten. Der Ort Matulji ist sehr bekannt wegen seiner Karnevalsküche welche man an dem„Festival pusne hrani“ probieren kann, aber auch in zahlreichen Gasthäusern und Restaurants in der Umgebung von Matulji. L’olio d’oliva é la base della cucina mediterranea, per il quale i nostri antenati ritenevano fosse sacro, mentre le spezie del litorale, come l’alloro ed il rosmarino, nobilitano numerosi piatti. La particolarità della cucina locale sono i prodotti di stagione caratteristici di questo clima, come gli asparagi, i marroni (castagne locali) e le ciliegie. Non si può non menzionare le grappe nostrane con erbe aromatiche o la „medica“, grappa con il miele, che la gente del luogo spesso e volentieri offre ai loro ospiti. Matulji (Matuglie) conosciuta per i suoi piatti tipici nel periodo di carnevale i quali si possono assaggiare du- rante il „Festival del cibo di carnevale“, però anche nelle trattorie e nei ristoranti della zona di Matulji Opatija riviera6 (Matuglie).

Još 1889. godine Opatija je službeno proglašena lječilištem, a 1912. godine grad je imao 12 sanatorija sa 62 lječnika. Godi- ne 1957. Osnovana je thalassotherapia Opatija za čije pokre- tanje je uvelike zaslužan profesor doktor Čedomil Plavšić, na tragu koje su ostavili profesor interne medicine Max Joseph Örtel, balneolog Julius Glax, kirurg Theodor Billroth... The Kvarner climate is especially suitable for diseases of the upper respiratory tract, anaemia, cardiac illnesses and skin di- seases. Back in 1889 Opatija was officially proclaimed a health resort and in 1912 it had 12 sanatori- ums with 62 doctors. In 1957 thalasotherapia Opatija was founded, mostly due to involvement of dr. Čedomil Plavšić, who followed the trails left by internist Max Joseph Örtel, balneologist Julius Glax and surgeon Theodor Billroth... Das Klima des Kvarners eignet sich besonders zur Behandlung von Erkrankungen der Atemwege, Anämie, Herzkrankheiten und Hautkrankheiten. Noch im Jahre 1889 wurde Opatija offiziell als Kurort erklärt, worauf im Jahre 1912 die Stadt 12 Sanatorien mit 62 Ärzten hatte. Im Jahre 1957 wurde die Thalassotherapie in Opatija gegründet, für deren Einführung prof. Čedomil Plavšić eine wichtige Rolle spielte, der an den Fundamenten seiner Vorgänger baute, wie zB. der Professor der Inneren Medizin Max Joseph Örtel, der Balneologe Julius Glax, der Chirurg Theodor Billroth usw. Opatija je dobila ime po benediktinskoj opatiji sv. Jakova kojaOPATIJA • ABBAZIA se spominje 1453. godine, kada je postojala mala crkvica koja je 1941. godine dobila današnji oblik crkve sv. Jakova u sredi- štu grada.Opatija se počela razvijati i graditi na prijelazu 19. u 20. stoljeće i do danas je zadržala sklad s prirodom. Njegovani parkovi, osvijetljeno obalno šetalište, uređena kupališta i fon- tane okvir su vilama i hotelima za smještaj turista. Opatija got its name from the Benedictine abbey of St. James, first mentioned in 1453 when there was a small church that in 1941 got its present form of the church of St. James in town cen- tre. Opatija began to develop and became more built in late 19th and early 20th century, keeping its harmony with nature until today. Well-groomed parks, illuminated promenade by the coast, tidy bea- ches and fountains provide the framework to villas and hotels for tourist accommodation. Der Name Opatija stammt von dem Benediktiner Kloster welches schon im Jahre 1453. erwähnt wurde. Damals war es eine kleinere Kirche welche im Jahre 1941 ihre heutige Form der Kirche des Heiligen Jakob bekommen hat und die sich auch heute noch im Stadtzentrum befindet. Die Stadt Opatija entwickelte sich an der Wende des 19. zum 20. Jh. und bis heute wurde der Einklang mit der Natur beibehalten. Ihre Parkanlagen, der beleuchtete Strandweg, die eingerichteten Strände und Fontänen sind eine zauberhafte Kulisse neben der Hotels und Vilas für die Unterkunft der Gäste. Opatija (Abbazia) ha preso il nome dall’abbazia benedettina di San Giacomo menzionata gia nel 1453, quando qui si trovava un piccola chiesetta, che nel 1941 ricevete l’aspetto odierno della chiesa di San Giacomo nel centro della città. Lo sviluppo e la costruzione di Opatija(Abbazia) ebbe inizio a cavallo tra il 1800 e il 1900 ed ha conservato fino ai giorni d’oggi l’equilibrio con la natura. I suoi giardini, la passeggiata lungo il mare illuminata anche la notte, le strutture balneari e le fontane, fanno da cornice alle ville e agli alberghi che offrono sistemazione ai turisti.Opatija riviera10

Poslije Drugog svjetskog rata, šumsko je šetalište preimeno- vano u Zora, po društvu i zgradi koji su od 1889. do danas igrali značajnu ulogu, najprije u jačanju narodnjačkog duha a kasnije u društvenom i kulturnom životu Opatije. Potkraj XX. stoljeća, šetni- ca je preimenovana u Carmen Sylva, po rumunjskoj kraljici i ženi glavnog sponzora uređenja šetališta. During the Austrian era, two footpaths in Opatija were named after the Romanian king – these were the forest path König-Carol-Wal- dweg and the König-Carol-Promenade. After World War Two, the fo- rest path was renamed as Zora, after a local cultural society that has played a significant role in the social and cultural life of Opatija since 1889. At the end of the 20th century, the forest path was given the name of Carmen Sylva, Romanian queen and wife of the forest path’s main sponsor. In der österreichischen Epoche wurden zwei Spazierwege in Opatija nach dem rumänischen König be- nannt – der König-Carol-Waldweg und die König-Carol-Promenade. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde dem Waldweg der Name Zora nach der Gesellschaft und dem Gebäude verliehen, die von 1889 bis heute im sozialen und kulturellen Leben Opatijas eine wichtige Rolle spielten. Seit Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts trägt der Waldweg den Namen Carmen Sylva zur Erinnerung an die rumänische Königin und Ehefrau des Hauptsponsors, der sich um die Gestaltung des Waldweges verdient gemacht hatte. Durante il periodo austriaco, le due passeggiate di Abbazia portavano il nome del re romeno: König-Carol- Waldweg e König-Carol-Promenade. Dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, il nome del sentiero boschivo cambiò in Zora, in omaggio all’assetto sociale e all’edificio che dal 1889 ad oggi, hanno rivestito un ruolo importante; dapprima rinvigorendo lo spirito popolare, e successivamente diventando parte integrante della vita sociale e culturale di Abbazia. HOTEL KVARNER Prvi hotel u Opatiji i na istočnoj obali Jadrana. Podignut je 1884., za samo deset mjeseci gradnje u kojoj su sudjelovali zanatlije i dovažani materijali iz gotovo čitave Monarhije. Znamenit po svojoj “Kristalnoj dvorani” sa prekrasnim kristalnim lusterima, dograđenoj 1910. godine, u kojoj se odvijaju kulturno-zabavne manifestacije i razne svečanosti. Hotel Kvarner ugostio je i povijesno poznata imena poput A. P. Čehova. This was the first hotel in Opatija and on Adriatic east coast. Built in 1884 in only 9 months, during which builders and ma- terials were brought over from almost the entire Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Famous for its ‘Crystal hall’ with beautiful crystal chandeliers, the hall itself was built in 1910 and it hosts numerous cultural and popular manifestations and festivities. The famous hotel guests include the Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. Das Hotel ist eines der ersten und ältesten an der Ostküste der Adria. Erbaut im Jahre 1884 in nur 10 Monaten von Handwerkern und Baumaterialien aus der ganzen damaligen Monarchie. Beka- nnt wegen seinen„Kristallsaal“ mit prachtvollem Kristall Lustern, welcher im Jahre 1910 angebaut wurde, ist ein Ort für Kultur-und Unterhaltungsveranstaltungen und verschiedene Feierlichkeiten. U raskošnom zelenilu uz more, u blizini Crkve Sv. Jakova, ri-VILLA ANGIOLINA ječki trgovac i patricij Iginio Scarpa sagradio je 1845. villu s cvijetnjakom i parkom. U čast svoje supruge prozvao ju je Vi- lla Angiolina. U Opatiju Svetog Jakova počeli su pristizati prvi «pravi» turisti. Time započinje turistički razvoj Opatije. Turisti mogu pogledati bogato ukrašenu dvoranu sa oslikanim stro- pom. Iginio Scarpa, a nobleman and merchant from Rijeka built in 1845 this villa with flower garden and park, inside verdancy, by the sea and with the church of St. Jacob nearby. He named it in honour of his wife Angiolina. The first ‘real’ tourists started to visit St. Jacobs’ Opatija. This marks the beginning of Opatija’s tourist development. The tourists could see the richly ornamented hall with the painted ceiling. Im Grünen am Meer, in der Nähe der Kirche des Hl. Jakob, erbaute der Kaufmann und Patrizier Iginio Scarpa aus Rijeka im Jahre 1845 die Villa mit einem Blumenbeet und einem Park. Zu Ehren seiner Frau benannte er sie„Villa Angiolina“. Nach Opatija begannen damit die ersten„echten“ Tou- risten zu kommen. Dies war der Anfang der Entwicklung des Fremdenverkehrs von Opatija. Heute können die Touristen den reich verzierten Saal mit bemalter Decke besichtigen. Oba parka su dobitnici nagrada za najuređenije parkove. Krajem 19. stoljeća, arhitekt Carl Schubert iz Beča, dao je parku sadašnji izgled. Uz razne vrste palmi, bambusa, banana, cedra, počasno mjesto za- uzima kamelija (Camellia japonica) koja je prenesena s Filipina i postala jednim od simbola Opatije. The development of town caused the park to be divided in two areas: St. Jacobs’ park and Angiolina park. Both of them won the awards for most groomed parks. Architect Carl Schubert from Vie- nna gave the park its present appearance in late 19th century. Together with different kinds of palm trees, bamboos, banana and cedar trees, the centre spot is held by camellia (Camellia japonica) that was taken from the Philippines and became one of the symbols of Opatija. Lijevo, uz crkvu, nala- ze se samostan i klaustar s bunarom u sredini. Između crkve i samostana smješten je zvonik, građen od kamena. U crkvi se čuva replika reljefa čuvenog hrvatskog kipara Ivana Meštrovi- ća“Pietà”, prikaz umirućeg Krista s Majkom Marijom i Marijom Magdalenom. It was built on foundation of the former Benedictine monastery and was first mentioned in 1453. On the left side, by the church, there is a convent and cloister with a well in the middle. Between the church and the convent there is a bell tower made of stone. The inside of church guards the replica of the relief made by the renowned Croatian sculpture Ivan Meštrović, entitled “Pietà” and it shows the dying Christ with Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene. Dort wird das Replikat des Reliefs “Pietà” aufbewahrt, eine Darstellung des sterben- den Jesus mit seiner Mutter Maria und mit Maria Magdalena des berühmten kroatischen Bildha- uers Ivan Meštrović. Tra la Chiesa ed il convento si trova il campanile tutto in pietra. UMJETNIČKI PPAAVIDILJGLOINO•NEAARTRTIPSATVIILCIOO“JNU•RKAJÜNMSATTLIJERAPŠAPVIOLRLEOR”N Nekadašnja austro-ugarska slastičarnica izgrađena 1900. go- dine, a njena potpuna restauracija izvršena je 2003. godine s namjerom da se dobije kvalitetan izložbeni prostor i dvorana za kulturne manifestacije. Izložbeni prostor je dobio ime po liječniku dr. Juraju Matiji Šporeru (1872. godine predlagao je osnivanje Društva za izgradnju Opatije kao morskog kupali- šta i prirodnog lječilišta). Originally an Austro-Hungarian candy store built in 1900; its complete restoration was made in 2003 with an intention to get a quality exhibition space and cultural events hall. The exhibition space got its name after dr. Juraj Matija Šporer, who in 1872 suggested the foundation of the Society for building Opatija as sea and natural health resort. Die einstige österreichisch-ungarische Konditorei wurde im Jahre 1900 erbaut, während die letzte Komplettrestauration im Jahre 2003 vorgenommen wurde so dass man einen guten Ausstellung- splatz und eine Halle für Kulturmanifestationen bekommen hat. Der Kunstpavillon wurde nach Dr. Juraj Matija Šporer benannt (1872 schlug er die Gründung einer Gesellschaft vor für den erbau von Opatija als ein Seebad und ein natürlicher Kurort). LUNGO MARE Građen u etapama, ovaj put se proteže od Preluka do Lovra- na u ukupnoj duljini od oko 12 kilometara. Staza prolazi po- red većine značajnih objekata opatijske povijesti, povezujući stare sanatorije Sjeverne obale, luku, Lido, vile Angiolinu i Amaliju, hotel Kvarner, crkvu Sv. Jakova i naposljetku hotele i vile Južne obale. Šetalište se počinje uređivati 1885. godine, a spojeno je s Lovranom 1911. godine. This path was built in phases and it goes from Preluka to Lovran, all together 12 kilometres in distance. The path passes the majo- rity of important places of Opatija’s history, connecting the old sanatoriums of the North shore, the harbour, lido, Villa Angiolina and Amalia, Kvarner hotel, St. Jacobs’ Church and finally the hotels and villas of the Southern coast. The promenade was first put in order in 1885 and connected with Lovran in 1911. Errichtet in Phasen, dehnt sich dieser Weg von Preluka bis Lovran mit einer Gesamtlänge von un- gefähr 12 km. Die Promenade führt neben bedeutendsten Objekten der Geschichte von Opatija, vorbei an alten Sanatorien am Nordstrand, Hafen, Strand Lido, Villa Angiolina und Amalija, Hotel Kvarner, Kirche des Hl. Jakob und schließlich zu den Hotels und Villas am Südstrand. Die Einrich- tung des Strandweges beginnt im Jahre 1885 und wurde im Jahre 1911 mit Lovran verbunden. La passeggiata passa vicino a numerose strutture importanti per la storia di Opatija (Abbazia), collegando cosi i vecchi sanatori della Costa Settentrionale, il porto, il Lido, le ville Angiolina ed Amalia, l’albergo Kvarner, la Chiesa di S.Giacomo ed in fine le ville e gli alberghi della Costa Meridi- onale. Skulptura je postala jedan od simbola Opatije nakon što je 1956. go- dine postavljena na hrid s prekrasnim pogledom na Opatiju. Ondje je do tad stajao kip Madonne koja je bila postavljena da bdije nad dušom grofa Arthura Kesselstatta, nestalog u proljetnoj oluji na moru godine 1891. Zanimljivo je da je originalan kip djevojke s galebom imao i ribu, u galebovom kljunu, koja je vremenom isčeznula. The sculpture of the girl reaching for the seagull was made by Zvonko Car. It became one of the symbols of Opatija after it was put on a rock with a beautiful view on town in 1956. Up until then on that spot was the statue of Madonna who was put there to watch over the soul of Arthur Kesselstatt, who went missing in the spring storm on sea in 1891. It is interesting to note that the original statue of the girl with the seagull also had a fish in seagull’s beak, but it vanished with time. Die Skulptur des Mädchens welches ihren Arm der Möwe streckt ist ein Werk des Bildhauers Zvon- ko Car. Die Skulptur ist heute eines der Symbole von Opatija, nachdem sie im Jahre 1956. an der Felsenklippe mit einer wunderschönen Aussicht auf Opatija platziert wurde. Eine interessante Be- sonderheit ist dass die Seemöwe, die Teil dieser Skulptur ist, ursprünglich einen Fisch im Schnabel hatte der im Laufe der Zeit abhanden gekommen ist. An dieser Stelle stand vorher eine Skulptur der Madonna welche dort aufgestellt wurde so dass sie über die Seele des in einem Frühlingsge- witter im Jahre 1891. umgekommen Grafen Arthur Kesselstatt wachen kann. La scultura della ragazza che tende la mano al gabbiano, opera dello scultore Zoran Car, é diventata uno dei simboli di Opatija (Abbazia) dopo il 1956 quando é stata posta sulla roccia, da dove si gode una magnifica vista su Apatia (Abbazia). Prima, su quello stesso posto, si trovava una statua della Madonna eretta per vegliare sull’anima del conte Arthur Kesselstatt, scomparso in mare durante una burrasca primaverile nel 1891. Only a kilometre away from Opatija’s centre, one can feel the unique experience of the coastal atmosphere. Volovsko was once the seaport of the nearby Kastav, while today Volovsko’s inhabitants use the sea much more often for sport. The sea there is suitable for surfing and sailing. The summer is celebrated there with the ‘Mandrać’, the competition in painting, while the chimneys of the houses provide the everlasting motive for the numerous artists.
