What Is Career Planning? Career Planning is the process of understanding who you are in the world of work, developing a career strategy to get to where you want to be in the world of work and establishing a plan to sustain a fulfilling career. The Career Life Plan helps you understand who you are in the world of work, while taking into consideration all of the things in your life that are important to you. Begin the first step of career planning by exploring the question “Who Am I?” in regards to my work. Whether you are starting your career or well into it, this workbook can help you move your career in the right direction. Data shows that people who do fulfilling work are happier and perform better on the job. To answer the “Who Am I?” question we must explore four areas. 1) Interest: What do I want to do 2) Personality: How do I want to function day to day? 3) Skills: What skills do I like using and need? 4) Values: What are my life and work values? It is important to understand that all four areas of the “Who Am I?” question must be addressed to have that fulfilling career. Addressing just one, two or three of the areas will not work when making good career life choices. Interest + Personality + Skills + Values = Making Good Career Life Choices The Career Life Plan walks you through each of these four areas and helps you answer the question “Who Am I?”Build your plan Your Career Matters4 AT&T University© 2016 AT&T Intellectual Property.
