Our goal is to prepare you for success on your Federal Aviation190 Crossroads Parkway Administration (FAA) written, oral and practical exams andSavannah Technical College one part of that is helping our interested students understandSavannah, GA 31407 what to expect when attending this [email protected]      This preparation course is designed for intermediate to912-443-3012 advanced professionals with 18 to 36 months of experience working on Airframe & Powerplant.         Participants attending this course will work with the instructor to refresh their understanding of various airframe, powerplant, and general topical areas as well as gain understanding in some areas that are unfamiliar. Students will also prepare for the hands-on practical examination in the Savannah Tech Aviation Training Center Lab.      Once enrolled, we'll provide a study plan and access to online prepware to help jump-start your independent study.      During the length of the course, you will have the opportunity to sit for all three written exams at our Testing Center. You can also schedule to complete your oral & practical exams with our college's Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME) after successfully passing the written exams.       Our prep courses are intensive in nature and due to the length of the course, we are unable to cover every topic that may be assessed via the FAA written, oral, and practical exams. LEARN MORE ABOUT 1 QUALIFYING FOR THE CERTIFICATIONGENERALQUALIFICATIONSApplicants seeking their mechanic certificate must be at least 18 years old, able to read, write, speak,and understand the English language (with certain exceptions permitted); able to meet theexperience, knowledge, and skill requirements for at least one rating and able to pass all theprescribed tests within a 24-month period.Before taking the written, oral, and practical tests, you must meet the eligibility requirements. Thedetermination of eligibility of applicants for the general, airframe, and powerplant tests is made onthe basis of one of the following options:1. You can attend one of the 170 FAR part 147 Aviation Maintenance TechnicianSchools nationwide. These schools offer training for one mechanic's certificate orboth. Many schools offer avionics courses that cover electronics and instrumentation.2. You can work an FAA Repair Station or FBO under the supervision of a certifiedmechanic for 18 months for each certificate, or 30 months for both. You mustdocument your experience with pay receipts, a log book signed by your supervisingmechanic, a notarized statement from your employer, or other proof you worked therequired time.3. You can join one of the armed services and get training and experience in aircraftmaintenance. Make sure you are in a military occupational specialty for which FAAgives credit. You can get a current list of acceptable specialties from the local FAAFlight Standards District Office (FSDO). You must present an official letter from yourmilitary employer certifying your length of service, the amount of time you worked ineach specialties, the make and model of the aircraft or engine on which you gotpractical experience, and where you got the experience. You cannot count time youspent training for the specialty, only the time you spent working in the specialty.The general qualifications for an aviation maintenance technician certificate require you to have acombination of experience, knowledge, and skill. You should review the appropriate sections ofTitle 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part 65 for detailed information pertaining toeligibility requirements. LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CERTIFICATION2 EXAMS WRITTEN Each test must be passed with at least a 70 percent. For individuals seeking all three ratings, there are three written exams that must be taken. The time limit to complete each test is 2 hours. General test has 60 questions Airframe exam has 100 questions Powerplant exam has 100 questions The Testing Center here at Savannah Tech's Crossroads Campus is an approved testing site for the FAA written exams. Please note: The FAA Exams are “closed tests” which means the exact database of questions is not available to the public. The question and answer choices [provided to you during our course and] via Prepware are derived from history and experience with the FAA testing process. You might see similar although not identical questions on your official FAA exam. ” (Source- online.prepware.com) This is why our program focuses more on making sure you understand the theory so that you can more confidently answer any question that is presented to you.  ORAL & PRACTICAL After you successfully pass the written exams, you must also take oral and practical tests. A Designated Mechanic Examiner(DME) gives you the oral and practical test. The oral and practical tests cover 43 technical subjects. Each test is randomly generated at the time of the examination. Typically tests for one certificate--airframe or power plant--takes about 8 hours. For the full rating, the examination takes about 10-12 hours. Savannah Technical College has a DME available at our Savannah Tech Crossroads Campus and meets with every cohort near the beginning of the course. COST OF COURSE 5 & FINANCIAL AID OPTIONSThe One-Week course and the Evening & Weekend course are bothpriced at $950. The one-on-one training is $1495.The test fees are not included in the cost of the course. Written tests arean additional $165 each or $495 for all three. The oral and practicalexams are $200 per rating or $600 for all three.Courses provided by the Continuing Education Department of SavannahTechnical College are not eligible for the HOPE Scholarship or PELL Grant.However, students, who qualify, may be able to receive financial assistancefrom the agencies below.MyCAAMilitary spouses interested in pursuing licenses, certificates, or certifications needed to obtain gainfulemployment in high demand, high growth, and portable career fields and occupations may be able toreceive assistance through Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts.
