Child ProtectionUnit (CPU)The Role and Function of the ChildProtection Unit (CPU) is to investigatecases of recent sexual offences/abuse,physical abuse, abandonment/neglectand ill-treatment of children. TheChild Protection Unit is mandatedthrough the Children’s Authority ActNo. 46.10 to engage in a collaborativerelationship with the Children’sAuthority to ensure the care andprotection of the nation’s children.CPU of cers are attached to each PoliceDivision throughout Trinidad and Tobago.The Unit focuses on ve (5) areas:• Sexual Abuse• Physical Abuse• Abandonment• Neglect• Ill-treatmentSome of the responsibilities of the ChildProtection Unit are:• Assisting in the removal of children from dangerous situations;• Implementation of Court Orders which have been obtained concerning a child;• Visiting children at home and in institutions.
