F. Reflection (E-Portfolio) 1. What did you learn or discover from doing the case study? We have learned from the process of accomplishing this project a lot of things that helped us to develop and change our ideas, perspectives about how to deal and treat the students when we will teach them and responsible of a whole class that may have at least thirty students. First, we have learned the importance of reading and searching in different resources those talks about the child wellness before we start work on our project, not only reading but also reflecting on our reading and trying to proses that information. Secondly, we discover from this project that the teachers in the cycle one should always focus and work on promoting the child wellness, in order to develop the students own personal traits. Also, we have learned that the school’s curriculum are not enough to develop the students’ abilities and their thinking or their wellness in all aspects, and we should work on that aspects and create activities which help in developing the students regarding the all five aspects of wellness because it will effect on the students. Moreover, we discovered that the most important part that the teachers should focus on and work on doesn’t only deals with the students’ academic performance but also their personality and how well they are especially the children in cycle one as that years are crucial and important to develop them regarding the wellness. We have discovered how the child wellness will have an influence in shaping the personality of the students and how it will affect their performance, and the teachers should develop a plan within their lesson planning that is specific on giving recommendations and suggesting activities and approaches to develop the students. Also, the teachers should try to keep the students communicated with each other’s positively and they have to teach them how to deal with each other and respect each other’s inside the classroom and outside the classroom.
Besides, we have learned that the teachers should teach the students how to express their feeling by asking them some questions about how do they feel after a certain situation e.g. how do they feel after listening to the story and if they do like the story or not. Also the teachers should always try to ask the students higher level thinking questions, for example, after they listen to the story she asks them to think about another end for the story or to solve the problem that they listen it. This means that the teachers should develop higher cognitive skills through stimulating their thinking by asking them some questions and don’t only work on developing their ability to recall the information. 2. Does BTC curriculum emphasize child wellness? Explain your answer. Some of the curriculums that we took in BTC emphasizes on the child wellness as a whole for example the drama course (TC1EN244) was focusing on how to develop the students in almost all aspects of wellness through letting the students learn by keeping them singing songs or conducting a play or dramatization to learn, which is related to the cognitive, social, emotional, physical and communication wellness. Also we have studied about the child wellness as theories and from the perspective of knowing the phycology of learning in our first year in the college. Other courses that we took in our specialization deal with the child wellness as a part that is related to the information presented in the course. However, in general most of the courses are related with the child wellness, but they did not explain it to us in details or emphasis on it well and the emphasis need to be fostered more. But in this course we have learn about the child wellness in details and we understand how to develop these wellness with our future students. Also, we know the benefits of these aspects and how it will be affecting the students' performance and personalities. 3. What competency did you develop from doing the case study? This project is related to the second competency which is student’s development, because we were working on studying how the schools develop the students regarding the all five aspects and we have suggested some
recommendations that we see as an approaches and ways to improve thewellness of the students. Also, we did understand how to develop the wellness ofthe students regarding the five aspect social, emotional, communications, physical, cognitive when teaching or conducting an activity as we are nowaware of the relation between learning and the child wellness. Also, this project is related to the School, Community, and Civic Engagementcompetency, as we learn how to teach the students how to communicate andhow to build good relationships between the peoples who are around them thatwas through the emphasize on developing the students social andcommunication aspects. Moreover, this project is related to the fifth competency which is learningenvironment (classroom management), because we were working in developingthe child wellness within the normal classrooms and that need positive, savelearning environment to motivate the students to work on the activities that theteacher designed for them to develop their wellness. Moreover, we learn thatwhen the teacher develop the child wellness she must manage the learningenvironment and make sure that the students are engaged and feeling belongingto their environment. This project is also related to the third competency which is diverse learners, because in our project we were working to understand and to know how todevelop the child wellness for all the students taking into consideration theirdiversity and their own needs, even if there are exceptional students with alearning disability or gifted, the teachers should deal with all of them andprovide all the students with opportunities to improve and develop theirwellness.
