Glycolysis Glycolysis is the first stage in cellular respiration. Glycolysis is when glucose is broken down into pyruvate. The glucose is broken down by enzymes. This stage happens in the cytoplasm. This means that it is anaerobic respiration because in the cytoplasm, it is anaerobic respiration and aerobic in the mitochondria. In this stage, 2 ATP are made. Glucose is the reactant while ATP and NADH are the products.

Kreb’s Cycle Kreb’s Cycle is the second stage in cellular respiration. Kreb’s cycle is also known as citric acid cycle. This is a series of aerobic chemical reactions. This stage occurs in the mitochondrial matrix. This stage is aerobic because it is in the mitochondria. The pyruvate breaks down into acetyl CoA. This stage also make 2 ATP. The reactant for Krebs cycle is pyruvic acid and the products are NADH, FADH2, and CO2. NADH and FADH2 are electron carriers.

Electron Transport Chain Electron Transport Chain is the third step in cellular respiration. The electrons get transported to the electron chain. These ATP diffuses protons which is called chemiosmosis. Electron Transport Chain occurs in the inner membrane of the mitochondria. It produces 32 - 34 ATP. The electron transport is an aerobic respiration. The products for the electron transport chain is water and ATP and the reactants are ADP, electrons, and oxygen.

Anaerobic vs. Aerobic Anaerobic respiration is a reaction that does not include oxygen. Aerobic respiration is a reaction that does include oxygen. Anaerobic respiration happens in glycolysis and Aerobic happens in Krebs cycle and Electron Transport Chain.
