Session Conduction Engage: Ask students how they organize their clothes in the cupboard or their notebooks and stationery on their study tables. Does organizing their belongings help them. Give your example of how you organize students’ related items in the file cabinet or on the computer. Stress how organizing helps in accessing them easily. Concept introduction: Each document and application that is saved on the computer is saved in its own file. The fundamental unit of storage is the file. The content of files is used to store data, while the content of folders is used to store files and subfolders. Concept Demo/Explanation: Explain how files are used for storing data in a computer. Relate files with notebooks used for different subjects in school. The file name is used to differentiate one file from another. A file is accessed by its name and its extensions are used to define the type of file, whether it be text, ZIP file, document, image, video files, audio files, or any other type. Explain some of the basic file operations create, save and open.
Explain what are folders used for. Use the examples from the book- arrangement of books in a library, arrangement of food items in a refrigerator, etc. Ask students to observe what different files and folder icons look like. Inform students any number of folders can be formed, and each folder can have multiple files and subfolders. Concept Practice: Demonstrate how to create a text file by right-clicking on the desktop. Create files and folders using This PC icon. Explain the contents that appear on This PC window. Create a school folder and sub-folder lesson plan and some more folders inside it.
