Lesson Plan - 1 Computer Science Introduction to Windows GUI Topic- Windows and Desktop Class: Period: Mode: Classroom/Lab Teacher: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Learning Support Assistant: ____________________________________________________________ S.M.A.R.T. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Identify features of Windows 10 desktop. 2. Identify some useful desktop icons. 3. Use the program window of any program. Resources • Demo to be given by the teacher Session Conduction Engage: Ask students what happens when they turn on the computer. What do they see next on the screen? Can they open paint or any other software without a start button? What is a desktop? What are icons? What are the icons they see on a desktop? Then ask them if they have played or used an app on a mobile phone. How do they open it? Just like a mobile phone has an interface through which we interact with it. Same way operating system acts as an interface between computers and us. The desktop is the main screen area that you see after you turn on your computer and log on to Windows. Concept introduction: Briefly introduce what is an operating system, booting, and Windows. Explain different parts of the Windows 10 desktop (Wallpaper, icons, gadgets, etc.). You can compare the desktop with the mobile phone’s home screen which contains some icons to quickly open mobile apps.

Show them some of the desktop icons like This PC, Recycle Bin, and Network. Also, tell them what do they do. Next, tell them about the program window. After opening any application or program on your computer, usually you can see a program window. There you can interact with the application/program, minimize the program window, move, maximize or close it. Concept Demo/Explanation: Open one or two programs like Wordpad, Paint and show them the title bar, how to use the menu bar, scroll bar, and maximize and minimize the window. Concept Practice: Complete the lab activities. Home Assignments Revise the topic covered. Lab Session Perform the two activities given under the Lab Activity section of the book. Evaluation After completing the lesson solve the exercises given in the book.

Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Identify at least four Windows Accessories. 2. Open common Windows Accessories and work with them. 3. Understand the use of various Windows Accessories. Session Conduction Engage: Ask students if they have used paint and calculator in Windows. Do they know how to open it? Concept introduction: Windows operating system comes with some basic applications calculator, paint, writing applications. Show them how to open them through the Start menu. Concept Demo/Explanation: Show how to use some of the Windows accessories applications like Calculator, Paint, WordPad, Notepad. Concept Practice: Complete the lab activities. Optional Activity: Students can explore additional Windows Accessories applications like command prompt, snipping tool, sticky notes, etc in their lab time. Home Assignments Revise the topic covered.
