Lesson Plan - 1 Computer Science Machines and Computers Class: Period: Mode: Classroom/Lab Teacher: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Learning Support Assistant: ____________________________________________________________ S.M.A.R.T. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Understand the concept of a machine. 2. Identify manual and automatic machines we use in our day-to-day life. 3. Understand why computers are important. 4. Types of computers we use in our day-to-day life. Resources • video https://youtu.be/lFvilRtQERw (4.24) Session Conduction Engage: Ask students what kind of machines they have seen in their houses or around. Ask them how do they sharpen a pencil? What helps them to sharpen a pencil? Ask is sharpener a machine? Is the fan a machine? If yes, then why? Concept introduction: Explain machines as man-made devices that make human daily work easier. Show the pictures given in the book for examples. Additionally, you can give more examples like shopping cart pulley, staplers, television, etc. Next, explain the difference between manual machines and automatic machines. You can tell them that manual machines are those which are operated by the human body part. Or animal power. Automatic machines work on electricity or fuel.

Emphasize how computers can do calculations faster than us. It can work day and night without getting tired but we cannot. Depending on the need we can use different computers. Explain where we can use computers in our day-to-day life with the examples from the book. Concept Demo/Explanation: Show the pictures from the book for reference. Concept Practice: You can ask students about their favorite manual and automatic machine and why do they like them. Optional Activity: Watch the video https://youtu.be/lFvilRtQERw and discuss it with the teacher. Home Assignments 1)Revise the topic covered. Guided Assignment You can also ask students to visit https://www.webopedia.com/definitions/computer/ and https://www.defit.org/computers-what-is-digital-computer/ and discuss their findings with the teachers. Evaluation After completing the lesson solve the exercises given in the book.
