Lesson Plan Computer Science Explore the Keyboard Class: Period: Mode: Classroom/Lab Teacher: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Learning Support Assistant: ____________________________________________________________ S.M.A.R.T. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Get familiarized with the functioning of the keyboard. 2. Type using alphanumeric and number keypad. 3. Move around a document or any application using navigational keys. 4. Use the caps lock key for typing in capital letters. 5. Understand the functioning of the enter, backspace, delete, and spacebar keys. Resources 1. video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8mEwCaOPnc (4.26). 2. Use the eContent to show the animated demos of the lesson. Session Conduction Engage: Ask students how do they write in a notebook. Can they write using a pencil on a computer? If they know what is the use of the keyboard? Ask, what they see on the keyboard. Once they answer, the keyboard is just like a pencil used for writing in a notebook. The keyboard is used for writing on computers. Hence any computer keyboard will have letters, numbers, and symbols. Concept introduction: Keyboards in computers are used to communicate with the computers. A keyboard looks similar to a typewriter. Integrated keyboards can be found on laptops. Mobile phones and tablets have on-screen keyboards that pop up when we need them. Keyboards are connected using wires, USB, or Bluetooth. Phones, laptops, and tablets allow external keyboards to be attached through USB or Bluetooth.

Concept Demo/Explanation Explain to students that knowing how to type and use a keyboard is an important skill to learn because people use computers and keyboards every day. Explain are different types of keys available which are alphanumeric, numeric keypad, navigation keys, and special keys like caps lock, spacebar, backspace, delete, and enter. Use the navigation and show how to move around an application window. Using an application like WordPad write a text using alphabet and number keys. Use special characters and punctuation keys. Show how to type in capital letters using CapsLk. While writing the text explain the use of the spacebar and enters keys. Show how differently the delete and backspace keys delete text. Concept Practice: Ask them to locate letters, numbers, and special characters on keyboards. Discuss the fun activities mentioned in the book with students Show how left- hand fingers should be placed over the A, S, D, and F keys, and the right-hand fingers should be placed over the J, K, L, and; keys. These keys are considered the home row keys. The thumbs should either be in the air or gently touch the spacebar key. Revise the topic covered. 2. Practice the interactive exercises in Edusoft Smart App. 3.
