S.M.A.R.T. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Define the term “app”. 2. List main features of an app. 3. Differentiate between 3 major types of apps. 4. Download and install apps on mobile phones. 5. Download and install App Inventor driver. 6. Design a simple app in MIT App Inventor. Resources 1. Session Conduction Concept introduction: Say: You all know what are mobile apps. They are nothing new for you. On tour parents’ smartphones you might have downloaded and used various educational and entertainment apps. In this chapter, we shall learn how to create simple app and view its output on the mobile phone. Concept Demo/Explanation: Ask: Can you name 5 software that you have learnt so far? Can you name any apps you have installed or used on your parents’ smartphones? Any idea, how an app is different from a software on PC? Let the students come up with their responses. Build up your explanation form the students’ response and explain the difference between an app and a software.

Explain the main features of an app and its 3 major types namely: Native app, web app and hybrid app. Using your smartphone, demonstrate the steps of downloading and installing an app. Demonstrate how to open MIT App Inventor. Show the stpes to create a new project. Show the Designer and Blocks interfaces and explain the use of both. Then, using the steps given in the book, demonstrate the steps to do the following: • Create user interface by adding various controls. • Set properties of the controls. • Create block code of the app in Blocks section. • (During the process, explain the meaning of “event” and “variable”.) • Create a variable. • Testing the app. • Displaying app output on the smartphone using USB connecter. Concept Practice: Solve the problems given in the chapter-end lab exercise. Home Assignments 1. Revise the topic covered. 2. Practice the interactive exercises in Edusoft Smart App. 3. Solve any additional exercises on playground.edusoft.co.in Evaluation After completing the lesson solve the exercises given in the book.
