Lesson Plan - 1 Computer Science Brief History of Computers Topic: Evolution of Computer Class: Period: Mode: Classroom/Lab Teacher: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Learning Support Assistant: ____________________________________________________________ S.M.A.R.T. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Identify important historical events in the development of computers 2. Classify different generations of computers. Resources • video https://youtu.be/39bX8QOlwgE (9.21) Session Conduction Engage: Ask students, what is the oldest computer or piece of technology in your house? Have they seen a newer version of that technology? If yes, then which one do they think is the better version. If possible, display pictures of UNIVAC and ENIAC without telling students what it is and then ask them what is this a picture of? Concept introduction: Introduce them to the different computing devices used for computing complex mathematical operations in the past. Then tell how the computer has evolved and come to its present form. Go through the related content in the book for different generations of computers. Describe all the generations of computers. Concept Demo/Explanation: If possible, play the video link given in the resources section above.

Concept Practice: Find pictures from the internet to see how the oldest computer and present form. And discuss how different they look? Optional Activity: Have students reflect and discuss what was something interesting that they learned about the history of computers? Home Assignments 1)Revise the topic covered. Guided Assignment You can also ask students to visit https://btob.co.nz/business-news/five-generations-computers/ and https://www.webopedia.com/insights/generations-of-computers/ to find some interesting facts. Evaluation After completing the lesson solve the exercises given in the book.

Resources • video https://youtu.be/zIeVECTQ68o (4.35) Session Conduction Engage: Ask students what do they think about why computers are so popular. Does the computer have any limitations? Concept introduction: Tell them that some of the important characteristics of computers are Speed, Accuracy, Consistency, Data Storage, Capacity, and Flexibility. Also, they do have some limitations like human dependency, no IQ, emotionlessness lack of decision making, etc. Explain them in detail. Then you can list the computers based on size. You can also show some pictures with the help of the internet. Concept Demo/Explanation: If possible, play the video link given in the resources section above.

Concept Practice: You can ask them to find out information about supercomputers used in India. Who invented it, when was it invented, where are we using it, etc.?
