Lesson Plan - 1 Computer Science Working With Computers Windows 10 Class: Period: Mode: Classroom/Lab Teacher: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Learning Support Assistant: ____________________________________________________________ S.M.A.R.T. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Identify what is an operating system. 2. Turn on and off the computer. 3. Differentiate between text-based and graphics-based operating systems. Resources 1. Video https://youtu.be/7GxL6gAKWR4 (10.30). 2. Use the eContent to show the animated demos of the lesson. Session Conduction Engage: Ask students do they know how to turn on the computer what do they see? Let them answer. Once they answer tell them about booting. When the CPU is first switched on it has nothing inside the Memory. In order to start the computer, load the Operating System into the Main Memory and then Computer is ready to take commands from the User. Give an example of getting up with the alarm clock’s first ring in the morning or taking 5-10 minutes to get up and then do the rest of the thing Concept introduction: Explain a scenario to students that when they want to buy a toy there are two ways 1) Want a particular toy for e.g., a car toy, and go to the shop and ask the shopkeeper to give a red color car. 2) Look through all the toys in the glass showcase of the shop and then decide which one to buy.
Relate it with the operating system. Use the book example of the menu card in a restaurant to order food. An Operating system is an interface between a computer user and computer hardware. Users can give instructions using commands or can use icons, menus, and a mouse (to click on the icon or pull down the menus). Give some examples of operating systems. Show them how to use Windows 10 after turning on the computer. Concept Demo/Explanation: If possible, install Linux OS on lab computer and demonstrate the use of simple commands like cd, ls, mv, cp to access the Linux file directory. Or show students the command prompt in Windows 10 and use commands for file opening etc. Show the difference between graphical and text-based interfaces. Ask them which one they would prefer. Concept Practice: Ask students to turn on and off the computer with the help of teachers/parents. Instruct students to research different operating systems on the Internet and make notes about each. Optional Activity: Watch the video https://youtu.be/7GxL6gAKWR4 to understand the different parts of the desktop in the graphical user interface bases operating system Windows 10. Home Assignments 1. Revise the topic covered. 2. Practice the interactive exercises in Edusoft Smart App. 3. Solve any additional exercises on playground.edusoft.co.in Guided Assignment Ask students to visit https://edu.gcfglobal.org/en/windows10/getting-started-with- windows-10/1/ for more information. Evaluation After completing the lesson solve the exercises given in the book.
