Lesson Plan - 1 Computer Science Parts of a Computer Class: Period: Mode: Classroom/Lab Teacher: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Learning Support Assistant: ____________________________________________________________ S.M.A.R.T. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Identify the basic parts of the computer. Resources • video https://youtu.be/Agt27UWpwtY (5.33) Session Conduction Engage: Begin the lesson by asking students to identify computer hardware they see in the classroom. If you don’t have a computer in your classroom, you can take them to the lab room or you can take a printout of some parts and show them. Compare computer with the human body parts and tell them all the parts shown have some specific tasks. We can also connect some external devices like the speaker, joysticks to a computer. Concept introduction: One by one explain the important parts of a computer. 1) Monitor is used to displaying the work going on a computer. We can compare it with a human face which shows a variety of human expressions. 2)Keyboard is used for entering data by pressing keys and mouse is used for selecting something by pressing the mouse left and right buttons Human senses like sight, hearing, smell, touch act as keyboards or mouse for humans. They help us to gather information. And send that information to the brain for processing. 3)CPU is the brain of the computer and stores all information. Just like our brain does all processing.
4)External Devices-Speakers, joysticks, headphones, scanner, and printer. Mouth act as a printer in the human body that produces output. Ears act as speakers and headphones. Ears receive a sound signal and send that to the brain just like speakers receive sound signals and send it to the CPU. You can also tell how devices have evolved from getting connected to CPU through wires to wireless by using Bluetooth technology. Concept Demo/Explanation: Show them as many devices as possible in your computer lab and then tell them to write the names. In the note sections of the chapter, there are some interesting facts for students. Encourage them to go through it. Concept Practice: You can guide students to visit websites https://edu.gcfglobal.org/en/mousetutorial/mouse-tutorial/1/ and https://edu.gcfglobal.org/en/typing/typing/1/ for a fun interactive activity for building proficiency with mouse and keyboard Optional Activity: Watch the video https://youtu.be/Agt27UWpwtY and discuss it with the teacher. Home Assignments 1)Revise the topic covered. Guided Assignment Students can visit https://kids.kiddle.co/Computer_hardware and https://informationq.com/about-the-basic-parts-of-a-computer-with-devices/ to discuss their findings with teachers. Evaluation After completing the lesson solve the exercises given in the book.
