Lesson Plan - 1 Computer Science MS PowerPoint Graphics and Multimedia Topic: Slide Layouts Class: Period: Mode: Classroom/Lab Teacher: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Learning Support Assistant: ____________________________________________________________ S.M.A.R.T. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Will be able to use 9 types of slides layout in MS PowerPoint slideshows. 2. Insert a table in the slide and design and format it as per necessity. 3. Insert a chart object and change its style using chart tools. Resources 1. video https://youtu.be/VTH3i7Khpic (9.59). 2. Use the eContent to show the animated demos of the lesson. Session Conduction Engage: Ask students what is the benefit of using PowerPoint slides? What can make PowerPoint more impactful? What do they understand by multimedia? Encourage them to answer? Explain the importance of creating a clear, organized, and aesthetic slideshow that communicates a message in an effective way. To make a good presentation with multimedia objects we must take the following into consideration: good picture quality, the contrast of the picture, clear audio and video, good font styles, brightness. Some of these can be achieved by the associated format tools that we get in MS PowerPoint. Concept introduction: PowerPoint presentation uses text, images, video, audio, tables of data to make a visual impact on the audience. MS Office 2016/2019 provides built-in slide layouts that give the versatility and creativity in slideshows to communicate the message clearly and effectively. There are 9 layouts to choose from. The default one is the title and

text. The title slide layout is very important. The most obvious benefit of using a title slide is informing the audience of what they will see and learn. Consider a title slide as a cover of a book or report. The main advantage of two content slide layout is dividing the text into two blocks is to make reading smoother and more enjoyable, especially if the text is long. The Content with Caption and Picture with Caption slide layout offers a design that inserts text and an image in 2 spaces reserved for this purpose. In the content section of the title and slide layout, objects like tables, charts, images, smart charts, and videos. SmartArt graphics can be used to group lists of information together, through bullet lists for example, or to show a process, through cycles Concept Demo/Explanation: Show students to use different layouts. Insert table in a slide. Explain how contextual tabs Design and Layout on the Ribbon let us change the number of rows and columns, design, and other table properties. Next, insert a chart and change its property using the Design and Layout tab. Change the default worksheet with the data given in the book. Insert a smart art graphic. Using the smart art tools (Design and Layout tabs) changes the smart art graphic layout, style, and colour. The steps for MS Office 1016 and 2019 are the same. Concept Practice: Ask students to complete the following activities in a new presentation. • Insert a table with 6 rows and 3 columns. Merge the first row and insert text as top 5 tennis players. In the second row give column headings as Player Name, Country, and Ranking. Insert some data and apply a design in the table. • Insert a 3-D pie chart and design it using chart tools. • Insert SmartArt ‘Cycle Arrow Process’ of Cycle category and add Central, Processing, Unit one by one in each block. Use the eContent to show the animated demos of the lesson. Session Conduction Engage: Ask questions to revise the previous topic. Ask what difference do they see after adding charts, tables, etc in their PowerPoint presentations. What are the other multimedia objects they would like to add in presentations to make the content better? Concept introduction: Explain presentation looks more interesting through the use of multimedia can help to improve the audience's focus. MS PowerPoint allows using images, audio, and video to have a greater visual impact. These visual and audio cues may also help a presenter be more improvisational and interactive with the audience. Concept Demo/Explanation: Insert pictures using, insert pictures icon in the title and content layout. Edit the picture brightness, layout, add borders around using the Format tab on the ribbon. Next, add video and audio in slides and format them with the format tools. Create a photo album, collect the picture files to add to the album. Steps for MS Office 2016 and 2019 are the same. In MS Office 2019 we can insert 2d and 3d graphics

using Icons and 3D Models, which can be found under Insert tab> Illustrations> Icons and 3D Models. Concept Practice: Ask students to create a photo album, change the order of the photos on the presentation slides, choose a picture layout, and a design theme. Play a family function video with a text line on the slides. Next, ask them to insert a video from YouTube or another site Optional Activity: Play https://youtu.be/ecc_4dozRyw (3.47) and discuss. Practical Application: Complete the activity given under the lab activity section of the chapter. Home Assignments 1. Revise the topic covered. 2. Create some fun and creative PowerPoint presentations on different topics like solar systems, my school. 3. Practice the interactive exercises in Edusoft Smart App. 4.
