Lesson Plan - 1 Computer Science Edit and Format MS Word Documents Topic: Text Editing Tools Class: Period: Mode: Classroom/Lab Teacher: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Learning Support Assistant: ____________________________________________________________ S.M.A.R.T. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Copy or move text, image, clipart, shapes, etc and paste it into a new area. 2. Use keyboard shortcuts in MS Word 2016/2019 for document navigation. 3. Search for a word and replace it in MS Word 2016/2019. 4. Review document using Spell and Grammar feature. 5. Use Thesaurus for increasing vocabulary. Resources 1. video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB_q2kzRQnk (0.00 to 6.23) 2. Use the eContent to show the animated demos of the lesson. Session Conduction Engage: Ask students how they edit word documents? Recap the editing covered in the previous class. Now tell students that there are many other editing options available in MS Word which will be discussed in this session. Concept introduction: Discuss how copying and pasting a text can save our time from retyping again and again. Cut and copy actions can be used for other objects like shapes, cliparts, images, symbols, etc. Explain to students we can undo when we want to remove the last actions in our documents, and redo if we want to restore the actions in Microsoft Word. Undo can be done even after saving the file. The find and replace tool in MS Word is used to find a particular word and replace it with a given word. Next, tell the students how Microsoft Office provides 2 tools for proofreading documents which are spell and grammar and thesaurus. These features analyze documents and offer

suggestions for spelling, and grammar issues and also for making sentences simple and concise, choosing synonyms, or writing with more formality. Concept Demo/Explanation: Ask students if they can perform cut and copy actions with a mouse. If the answer is no, then show how to copy and paste using mouse and keyboard shortcuts. Use keyboard shortcuts mentioned in the chapter for navigating through a word document. Show how to use undo and redo icons under the Home tab of MS Word 2016/2019. Ask students to find out what is the maximum number of actions they can undo in the MS Word version they are using. Ask students if they have noticed any text underlined with red and green wavy lines. Inform students what are they and how they can remove them using the steps described in the chapter. Show how to use Thesaurus for showing a list of synonyms for selected words. Inform students steps for editing text are the same for MS Word 2019/2016 version. Concept Practice: Ask students to complete the Do-it-Yourself activities. Optional Activity: Play the video in the resources section and discuss it with students. Practical Application: Complete the lab activities given in the chapter. Home Assignments 1. Revise the topic covered. 2. Practice the interactive exercises in Edusoft Smart App. 3. Solve any additional exercises on playground.edusoft.co.in. Make the text bold, italic, and underlined. 4. Emphasize a text by highlighting it. 5. Use the superscript and subscript options for text formatting. Session Conduction Engage: Revise the topic covered in the previous class. Ask students what they do to make their handwritten work presentable. Then explain the purpose of the formatting text is to enhance the presentation of information. For example, by making a sentence bold or italic, the reader can ascertain that the sentence is special. Concept introduction: Formatting in Word documents is to help the reader to obtain, understand, and retain the information. Fonts have a big impact on readability. If the font size is too small it makes people struggle to read our document. Depending on our requirements we can choose different font styles, font type, font colors, and font sizes. For official documents choose a fonts type that is readable and simple.

Concept Demo/Explanation: Demonstrate how to change different font settings from the Home tab of MS Word 2016/2019. How to change the case and highlight the text as per our requirement. Write a chemistry or maths formula using superscript and subscript features. Ask students to use the keyboard shortcut for formatting text. Concept Practice: Ask students to complete the Do-It-Yourself activities for formatting text. Optional Activity: Watch the video from the references section and discuss it with students.
