Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Identify the computer mouse and its parts. 2. Hold a mouse for interacting with computers through the left and right-click. 3. Drag and drop an object 4. Scroll horizontally and vertically on the computer’s window. Session Conduction Engage: Ask students if they have seen a real mouse? Show the computer mouse and ask them do they see any resemblance between the two. Ask them to describe what do they see in the computer mouse. Also, ask have they seen an ATM machine? How do people select the options in ATM.? Once they answer explain that it is a touchscreen that enables the user to interact directly with what is displayed. Now tell the same way to select something while working on a computer we need a mouse. Concept introduction: Explain the use of the left button and right button in the mouse. Tell students what is a scroll bar in the mouse. Show how the mouse will connect with the CPU through cable. If the cable is not connected properly mouse may not work properly. Tell them that a pointer (tiny arrow) appears on the screen which will move when the
mouse is moved. Also, describe to students what is a wireless mouse. Explain how in a laptop user interaction can be done with the help of a touchpad. Concept Demo/Explanation: Show students to hold a mouse. Explain how to select something using left-click and a special menu comes when we right-click. Show when is single and double click used. How to drag and drop. How to scroll vertically and horizontally on the computer screen with a scroll wheel. Show how to use the mouse in drawing programs like MS Paint. Concept Practice: Discuss with the student how the mouse gets power. From where does a wireless mouse get power to work. Ask students to complete the GCompris activities under teachers’ supervision. Divide students into four groups. And let each group explain all the parts of the mouse. Ask them to include what do they think how left-handed people will use the mouse.
