Lesson Plan Computer Science Tux Typing Class: Period: Mode: Classroom/Lab Teacher: ____________________________________________________________________________________ Learning Support Assistant: ____________________________________________________________ Time: 80 min. Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to: 1. Get familiar with the common keys on the key board. 2. Use Tux Typing to develop basic typing skill. Session Conduction Engage: Ask students how do they write in a notebook. Can they write using a pencil on a computer? If they know what is the use of the keyboard? Ask, what they see on the keyboard. Once they answer, the keyboard is just like a pencil used for writing in a notebook. The keyboard is used for writing on computers. Hence any computer keyboard will have letters, numbers, and symbols. Inform: To type with the keyboard, we need to be familiar with the keys and gain the ability to type correctly. For this we will use Tux Typing – an exciting program for kids to master keyboard. Concept introduction: Inform: A keyboard looks similar to a typewriter. Integrated keyboards can be found on laptops. Mobile phones and tablets have on-screen keyboards that pop up when we need them. But, the arrangement of keys on all the keyboards is same. Let us begin with Tux Typing to learn proper typing. Concept Demo/Explanation: Show the students how to open Tux Typing program. Demonstrate the following: • Simple Typing in Easy mode. • Medium mode

• Hard mode. Next, demonstrate the Comet Zap activity. Then show the steps to add our own words in Tux Typing for practice. Concept Practice: Let the students practice with Tux Typing various modes in lab. Guide them as required. Note: This is completely a practical oriented chapter. Let the students spend sufficient time in lab with Tux Typing to get familiar and comfortable with the key board.
