SPORTS INJURY PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT 1. BeinProperPhysicalConditiontoPlayaSport -Keepinmindtheweekendwarriorhasahighrateofinjury.Ifyou playanysports,youshouldadequatelytrainforthatsport.Itisa mistaketo expectthesportitselfto getyou into shape.Many injuriescanbepreventedbyfollowingaregularconditioningprogram ofexercisesdesignedspecificallyforyoursport. 2.Know andAbidebytheRulesoftheSport -Therulesaredesigned,in part,to keep thingssafe.Thisis extremelyimportantforanyonewho participatesin a contactsport. Youneedtolearnthem andtoplaybytherulesofconduct.Respect therulesonillegalproceduresandinsistonenforcementbyreferees, umpires,andjudges.
3.WearAppropriateProtectiveGearandEquipment -Protectivepads,mouthguards,helmets,gloves,andotherequipment arenotforthoseyouconsiderweak;theyareforeveryone.Protective equipmentthatfitsyouwellcansaveyourknees,hands,teeth,eyes, andhead.Neverplaywithoutyoursafetygear. 4.Rest -Athletes with a high numberofconsecutive days of training,havemoreinjuries.Whilemanyathletesthink the more theytrain,the betterthey'llplay,this is a misconception.Restisacriticalcomponentofproper training.Restcanmakeyoustrongerandpreventinjuries ofoveruse,fatigueandpoorjudgment.
