Read the passage given below: I. In the recent past, there has been a thought given to the several problems that the system of school education is facing. Starting with focus on the Delhi region, one of the first discussion points has been to find ways to bring the lakhs of children who have so far been denied education into a workable school system. A further aspect of the same problem is to ensure a minimum dropout rate in school children (particularly girls). In Delhi, this has reached alarming proportions. Finding solutions for Delhi will help other areas as well. II. A tool called ‘learning style inventory’ was used; it was addressed to know how information of skills is learnt, which factor makes an individual comfortable with learning skills or acquiring declarative knowledge. Different answers emerged. In dealing with factual knowledge some people liked to experience first, others to observe, yet others to experiment and still some who preferred to plunge into learning, leaving analysis for later. III. It then became easy to discover which of the attributes made for better learning for an individual. The learning situation will be benefited by understanding these differences. Two major processes cover most people’s learning styles. These are as follows: Information gathering process and process of transforming information. The continuance of information gathering is bound by people who gather information through experiences at one end and by those who gather information through reading/listening, on the other. The continuance of transformation of information is bound by people who internalise through watching/observing, on the one hand, and by those who learn while applying knowledge and doing something with it, on the other. Others fall somewhere in between. All this has a bearing on school because children too have similar learning styles on these two axes. IV. There are four types of learners. Firstly, there are children who will absorb facts through experiences. They will readily share their thoughts with others. The second type of learners will take unrelated facts and try to seek order in them in using independent judgement. They will prefer to be exact in their knowledge and correctly apply as per their understanding. The next type of learner is the pragmatist. They use their abilities for problem solving. Such a person – is a useful type to function in a group. The fourth type of learner belongs to the world of action. Everything is brought down to the level of concrete observation and doing. With some awareness of how children react in different ways, teachers may find effective methods of teaching. Based on your understanding of the passage, answer any eight out of the ten questions by choosing the correct option. 1. Mention two major problems that the system of school education is facing. 1. Enrolling children in school 2. Promoting girls’ education 3. Providing textbooks 4. Preventing dropping out 5. Providing school buildings (a) 2 and 3 (b) 1 and 4 (c) 3 and 5 (d) 1 and 3 NBSE 2021 2

Choose the correct synonym for the word ‘denied’ as used in Para I. (a) Acknowledged (b) Credited (c) Embraned (d) Refused II. Read the passage given below: I. Eating out is arguably the biggest social activity today for Indians across metros, but their choice of venue varies, depending on the city. II. Delhiites spend more money at fast food chains, cafes and street food stalls while Mumbaikars show a preference for restaurants, both standalone and inside hotels. III. The bulk of the food business in India is still in the unorganised sector, according to a survey done by the National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI), but the urge to experience novel cuisines is driving different formats in the organised sector at a brisk pace. Mumbai has the highest share in the organised market – which mainly accounts for standalone restaurants– followed by Delhi, Bengaluru and Pune. IV. For all other formats ranging from quick service restaurants (QSRs) such as McDonald's and Subway, to casual dine restaurants (CDRs) like Pizza Hut and Barbeque Nation and fine dining chains, it is the national capital region that provides the maximum patronage. In the unorganised segment too, Delhi comes first, followed by Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai respectively. V. In Bengaluru, notably, organized outlets such as chains and restaurants enjoy a bigger slice of the overall pie as compared to the unorganized sector. But in Kolkata, business from streetside stalls and households is more than twice as big as the organized segment. VI. “A restaurant today is not just a place for eating. It is a place to socialize, to unwind and more. Eating out is no more the rich man’s indulgence. There are options, and people, irrespective of economic class, go out to eat,\" said Riyazz Amlani, president, NRAI, and chief executive of Impresario Entertainment and Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. VII. The share of the organized food services market is just 33%, the report said. “This is largely due to over regulation of our industry, the complex maze of approvals and licences required and high tax brackets. It is about time our industry’s socio-economic impact is recognized by the government, and it initiates immediate steps to unlock the true potential of this behemoth,\" said Riyazz Amlani, president, NRAI.
