UNKNOWN VALUABLE FLOWERS IN OUR SURROUNDING [DASAPUSHPAM]

During this pathetic situation due to covid 19, we are thinking more about various immunity boosting methods from the nature like Ayurveda. So the use of Ayurvedic medicines are increasing in our daily lives.

Eventhough it is not a medicine for covid 19,or increase the immunity. I am introducing 10 flowers around us which are known for their medicinal properties and are known as dasapushpam.

Dasapushpam [dasa means ten and pushpam means flower] or ten sacred flower of Kerala. These are herbs found almost in all places in Kerala. Dasapushpam is also used to prepare folk medicines in Kerala.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT ARE THEY? Evolvulus alsinoides, Bin-Cynodon dactylon, Emilia sonchifolia, Ipomoea sepiaria, Aerva lanata, Curculigo orchioides, Eclipta Alba, Cyanthillium cinereum, Biophytum sensitivum and Cardiospermum halicacabum makes the Dasapushpam.

SCUTCH GRASS Scientific name: Bin- Cynodan Dactylon. Its juice is very effective for mentally retarded children. Applying its oil will cure skin diseases. Scutch grass sometimes may cause epidemic damage.

MOUTAIN KNOTGRASS Scientific name: Aerva-laneta. It is a small Shrub with white flowers. Effective in expelling toxins from the body and preventing kidney diseases. Good for bleeding, urinary stones.

SLENDER DWARF MORNING GLORY Scientific name: Evolvulass- ulsinoides. It is good to take it for minor mental ailments, especially for those with mental retardation.

LITTLE IRONWEED Scientific name: Vernoniasineria. It is a plant with small blue flowers. Good for detoxification and blood purification.

LILAC TASSEL FLOWER Scientific name: Emilia- sonchifolia. Good for all throat ailments. Effective for eye cooling and reducing blood clots.

BIOPHYTUM SENSITIVUM It is a plant with yellow flowers. It is also a toxin. It is best to apply its paste on the wound. It can also help control diabetes to some extent.

False daisy Scientific name: Eclipata-rostrate. Perfect for all respiratory ailments. Effective in improving eyesight, liver nourishment and cure for cough.

BALLOON PLANT Scientific name: Cardiospermum halicac abum. Remedy for stomach ache, hair loss, dehydration, fever.

MORNING GLORY Scientific name: Ipomea-maxima. It is a medicine that can change infertility in women.

GOLDEN EYE GRASS Scientific name: Curculigo orchioides. The rhizomes of the plants are used for the treatment of decline in strength, jaundice and asthma.

These plants are used in various medicines in Ayurveda and are scientifically proved.
