This chapbook is dedicated to my loving mother Mrs. Memitan Igoni and my siblings Margret, Kosuni and Queen
BLOOD Are we red cause we are carried in a womb Or we are red because we breath in oxygen If I was to be born through a different means Then what color would have flow inside me We are blood because we feed from same From the cord of my parent host I became Growing up in the dark I wait for the light Nine months’ time there behold me lite We are blood when our thinking aligns We walk together on a very good path Inside this vessel we all are carrying Working safely to avoid any injuries We are blood when each 24 hours go by We breath what we don’t see and it turns red
FORGIVE Forgive me I made some mistakes Teach me for there are lots at stake Lessons to learn that will be from you I’ll listen, change and turn brand new Please let the pains of yesterday go Let a new day come to renew it all So we can see each other and smile This way making our hearts happy Forgive me so as not to dirt the heart Or to prick it and it starts to bleed Un-forgiveness causes openings within From the holes hatred begins to go in Forgive to keep body and soul in one piece Forgive to keep the mind always at peace
NIGHT I'm up at night gazing at the stars For the shining one to fall on me Illuminate my path and take me far To distant ends we'll shine so bright I try to pick one out of a million stars I'm only human accept me the way I am The world needs a light to shine on dark Now you're part of me you're my star How I want my star to shine so bright Everybody got one, mine just fell on me I'll do what it takes to keep it shining And to keep the inspirations coming I look up and find me in the sky And you also, we're shining in the dark
DIFFERENCES We are different it shows on our faces Even twins got different palm markings Our voices can tell the difference also That's the only way life can continue In different way we came, male or female One needs the other for the world to grow Life won't be colorful with monochrome Our differences are the colors of beauty The joy of seeing different beautiful faces Hearing people speak different opinions Observing to know different ways of mind There are different ways we all can bond Science prove that similar charges repel But charges that are different they attract
PAINS Deep down in my heart I feel pains For the people without basic needs They are being left impoverished In IDP camps where they are refugees Being exposed to the torture of life Far distance, Away from their homes away from war and the battle cries Away from shelling at their homes If my words can bring comfort to you Then I write this few to lift your spirit Stay strong, live happy and kill the pain Look front, keep praying for better days For today you may only have little But tomorrow ushers in brighter days
FOREVER I won't leave you cause you end my fever Heart aches on my way searching for you To find a medicine that heals my emotions Some ladies showed me wrong directions Running wild to find the love of my world Temperature so hot it burns from within Can't hold back, I'm at the risk of explosion Caged feelings, it's you I'll pour my love on I'll wait for the right time to be with you I've come from journeys of scattered heart You put me together and you mend my soul With you till the end is my dream and goal Your healing is all I've ever needed Heal me nonstop, heal me forever
WHISPER Let the wind whisper to me nice words Same words it tells the leaves on trees A striking calmness that flows through I'll listen, I need such type of peace Let the bird tell me what it finds on its way Singing sweet songs inspired from the forest To my hearing, tingling melodies of the night Bird songs whispering tales of its journey Let the grass whisper to me why it's green A little of rainfall, it flourishes and it grows At from where the water flows unending All around the world and there's no ending Let my subconscious whisper to me Let it tell me what tomorrow holds
DARKEST MOMENT In my darkest moment I close my eye To see the pictures of my tomorrow A vision I'll want to diligently follow Mission trying to be cut short by sorrow Dark time moving in circle of deep pain In blinded eye, I'm looking for an exit Heart soaked in spilled blood being heavy, Let blood keep running through my veins Dark world where love doesn’t see the light I'll keep going, winning against all odds When hatred challenges me to a fight I'll win by responding with a smile What do I do in my darkest moment? I let my eye see through my vision
POWER LINE Humans wonder how I'm able to stand here On power line transmitting very high voltage They say my feet is clothed with rubber That's why I don't burn standing on power They put on rubber slippers as their safety Whenever they get close to electric city wearing rubber gloves to not feel its wrath If they plainly feel the power, death is bought I've got God given insulator to keep me safe The creator knew there will be power lines And made me to be able to survive mistakes As a result of my flights and need to rest I'm standing on high tension power line I'm looking out for the tree with my next fruit.
CHANGES Change is when nature takes its turn Changing from fortissimo to pianissimo From the time of dry to abundance of rain From a place of demerit to highest of merit We live for tomorrow cause it gets better Walking, searching for a flow in the delta It may seem like drought but it'll spring, The trees have seen change of seasons We shall flourish in all circumstances Like a seed buried away from the light Yet it changes and begins to sprout Kept underground but still it will grow You may not see the growth in me but I know that times and season changes
PAST I had come from the past to this present I met lots of challenges but stayed fervent Experiences met now comes back better And I am able to pass them all in a letter Knowledge kept had to be discovered They are in books for the adventurous In black and whites, not in the colors Same way you can't judge by the cover Without the pasts where will I have been From the time I was born till I can fly First had to crawl, then learn to walk Now I see challenges and jump over it It was in preparation for what's to come My pasts taught me about the future
MISTAKE Mistakes made can come back to hunt A time of temporary insanity, being blunt Speaking words that cut deep like a sword You may not know but you've spilled blood Man will forgive but nature always remember The wound may heal but the scar lives forever Think twice before unleashing fierce words The tongue if not tamed can lead to war I'm a mortal and I have made errors Forgive me, I know the stakes are high The words I've uttered cannot be erased I pray to nature to forgive my mistakes Forget my wrong doings and heal the scar Henceforth my tongue will keep things right
FADING BEAUTY At first sight she shone like the sun Beauty radiating, I needed her Love Sleepless nights I had, it was no fun Minutes passing, let your love find me I'll cherish you cause you're my Rose Let me be the first to pluck this flower I want to reach the depth of your heart To look in your eyes and see me inside Years go by, my Love for you remains In heavy storms, we'll keep pushing on We'll stick together and cross the ocean The Love we share will keep us afloat Time tells us all we are mortals In fading beauty we'll stick forever
PREACHER The preacher man goes on to preach No one sees him but souls convert He sends his words through the pages It's food for the spirit man when he reads He goes up to the mountain for inspiration To receive from the abundance of the ether communes with ancient knowledge stored Given instructions to be carried on earth Preacher writes for generations to see The pasts, present and trends to change An advocate for a world with one force Love, a religion that leads to world peace I went up the mountains to find solace In time of distress, I was given these words
KINGS CRY No human is above feeling pain A default setting during creation Emotionally hurt gives the stain We have to find a way to contain It's likely to come from speech Or to come from ones actions Or from a sight not pleasant Or physically from injuries We are mortals that's why we cry It's from a feeling the body lets out Watery eyes to show the pain felt No one wishes for it always You're not left alone in pains Because great Kings cry also
BEAUTY OF NATURE What can be more beautiful than nature In the woods are different species of birds Their chirping sounds and sweet melodies Singing songs that's soothing to hearing All types of animal are there in nature The fierce ones and domestic ones The valleys that leads to the mountain, At its top the wind is felt and refreshes It's so beautiful to see nature in harmony Nature has always provided for man To keep our existence going on, It's God’s way of preserving the gods Oh how I love being in tune with nature It shows me how beautiful the world is
HIDDEN There has never been a time of truth Lies told to my ears that still soothe Words spoken that she doesn't mean And I in ignorance believed them all In my toughest of time I still think of her When with her she display lots of love But once I leave, to her I'm gone I never knew she prays I don't return From the little I have, I gave my all She takes it and gives a kiss to my head I accept and rejoice not knowing it's fake When at the lake she wishes I drown All along, her intentions hidden Now I know I was never loved
HUNTING I go to the forest to find meat So I may have something to eat I can't sit when my belle is empty I make a loud noise when hungry I'm awake early in the morning To go out for the days hunting And I'll work hard to fill my barn To share some when it's in excess I know our strengths aren't equal But don't get weary on the chase On some days we're the hunted It doesn't stop us from hunting Staying steadfast and consistent I know one day I'll catch big meat
FIRE There is a fire within me that burns At times when it tries to off, The oxygen I breathe keeps it aflame Water I drink can't quench it's thirst A desire from inside that flows unending Take a view at me and see a Phoenix Through the heat and I don't melt I'm Black you can call me Smith The fire that burns molds the iron Inside of me that's how I was created And I let it to refine my thinking A burning desire for creativity You may think I'll get consumed But the fire in me keeps me going
SUPPORT From the loins in her womb, I came forth I opened my eyes and I saw my mother She has been a support since I was little In times I could not walk she held my hand Her smiles encourage me for the next day Words she utters puts me on the right track Even when I derail, her warnings echoes Her teachings keeps me back on track When you grow old I'll look after you The bond we share will never be broken The love shown to me can't be compared You keep being the best now until forever, I'll always be your little baby boy I cherish every support you give me
