0 Motors and turbinesFilter surface INFORMA- General Information TION TG Cartridge Filters have been designed to work in extreme working condi- 1 tions in the aspiration of gas turbines, generators and other rotary-operation equipment, for high performance work cycles in urban, industrial, interior, PRE- marine and coastal environments. FILTERS TG cartridges are available in a wide range of sizes in order to meet the needs of our clients. 2 They are available in a wide variety of filter media in order to ensure effective performance in specific operational conditions, with 99.8% efficacy in all ca- PAINTINGS ses, and capable of retaining particles of up to 0.5 microns. BOOTHS Construction 3 The filter media used for TG Cartridge production may be: COMFORT S: Synthetic filter media PRODUCTS K1: Synthetic and cellulose mixture F: Water-repellent micro fiberglass media 4 SG-F9: Synthetic and fiberglass media H: Hepa filter media EPA/HEPA The uniform separations between filter media folds are maintained with the use of perimeter bands of melted adhe- /ULPA sive that is applied heated to interior and exterior fold surfaces. This ensures constant form and distances between the folds, maintaining the original characteristics of the fold for long periods of time, while optimising the effective 5 use of the filter surface. The cartridges include inner and outer expanded galvanized metal covers or protections in order to guarantee the safety of the media, while maximizing both the filter surface and dust accumulation capacity. HIGH A thermoplastic seal is also made in order to prevent leakages between the galvanized covers at the ends of the TEMPERA- filter packet, resulting in a unified product. These filters are assembled securely using a circular polyurethane gasket. 0 Adsortion and desodorization INFORMA- ¿Por qué la filtración molecular? Adsortion and desodorization 0 General Information INFORMA- TION Activated charcoal, which is practically pure charcoal with an enormous porosity, is able to trap certain types of molecules in its walls due to a physiochemical phenomenon known as ‘adsorption’. In this process, the activated 1 charcoal is the ‘adsorbent’ and the molecule retained is the ‘adsorbate’. In order to be effectively adsorbed into an activated charcoal material, an adsorbate must have the following characteristics: PRE- (a) It must be able to fit inside the charcoal pores. FILTERS (b) The diameter of the molecule must not be less than 20% of the diameter of the majority of the activated charcoal pores. 2 (c) It must have a molecular weight greater than 55. (d) Be non-polar or only slightly polar. PAINTINGS Most organic compounds fulfil these requirements, which is why activated charcoal is used in gas and liquid purifi- BOOTHS cation processes, where the contaminants are organic molecules. 3 In the case of gas purification, the possibility exists of subjecting the charcoal to a treatment that allows it to re- tain molecules that do not fulfil these characteristics (a), (b) and (c), as in the case of mineral acids (hydrochloric, COMFORT sulphuric, nitric, phosphoric, etc.), ammonia, low-molecular weight amines, formaldehyde, isopropyl alcohol, mer- PRODUCTS cury, etc. The treatment consists of binding a reagent to the surface of the charcoal, which then reacts with the molecule to be retained. This means that the activated charcoal provides the surface area and the retention is made 4 by chemical adsorption or ‘chemisorption’. Contact time: divide the volume of the charcoal bed (litres) by the volumetric air or gas flow (litres per min.). PAINTINGS Recommended rates: BOOTHS 0.1 second. Low concentrations 2 to 7 seconds. Other cases 3 Hourly renewals: 6 to 30 air changes in order to maintain a well-ventilated location. COMFORT Index adsorption capacity of activated charcoal in gas phase PRODUCTS Of the pollutants listed, some are specific chemical compounds. Others represent a class of compounds and others 4 are mixtures of a variable composition. The capacity of the activated charcoal for odors varies with respect to their concentration, in addition to air humidity and temperature. EPA/HEPA /ULPA A= High capacity (the charcoal retains 20% to 50% of its weight). B= Satisfactory capacity (retains 10% to 25% of its weight). 5 C= Sufficient capacity to provide proper service under specific operational conditions, which must be analysed. D= Low capacity.
