Dukhrana 2022 1950th Anniversary of The Martyrdom of St. Thomas The Apostle

Say ‘Yes’ to a Life of Service and Responsibility Addressing some 75 young leaders of the various Syro-Malabar Eparchies of the diaspora and the Apostolic Visitation in Europe, Pope Francis noted that as Christians our wish is to follow Jesus and “walk along his path of love, the sole path that leads to eternal life.” Though not easy, he said, this path “is exciting” and “gives meaning to our lives. It gives us the strength to say ‘yes’ to a life of service and responsibility, and ‘no’ to one of superficiality and dissipation.” “In today’s 'fluid', even 'frothy' culture, our lives find substance and meaning whenever we say 'yes' to Jesus.”

Editorial Blessed Dukharna Thirunnal ! Happy Syro-Malabar Church Day! Welcome to yet another edition of the Marthoma Vision. This edition of the Marthoma Vision brings you the latest news and updates from our eparchy, including eparchial chancery, eparchial depart- ments, ministries and associations, parishes, and the mission communities. 3rd July 2022 is the 1950th anniversary of the Mar- tyrdom of our Father in faith Mar Thomasleeha. It is a significant milestone in the history of our Church. The blood of Mar Thomasleeha shed at Mylapore, and his final witness to Our Lord Jesus was the solid foundation on which the Indian Church was established. This occasion invites us to commit ourselves more earnestly to living the Gospel more meaningfully, which was first brought to India by St Thomas. As Pope Francis has appealed to all of us, let us continue to pray for the people of Ukraine and those whose lives are affect- ed by war and violence. We have received a great response to our Bishop’s appeal to support the people of Ukraine. Our Bishop Mar Bosco Puthur and the eparchy would like to thank everyone for their invaluable prayers, incredibly generous donations, and sacrifice. It is greatly appreciated. Your support helps to further the mission of our eparchy. Thank you again. A detailed report of the Help Ukraine project is included in this edition of the Marthoma vision. As the Covid restrictions ease, our eparchy at all levels is returning to normalcy. Parishes and missions’ communities have become more active pastorally. Arise 2022, the Syro-Malabar Youth Leaders Confer- ence (of the Diaspora) is the year in which we commemorate the 1950th anniversary of the Martyrdom of the Holy Apostle St. Thomas, was the most highlighted event in the last three months. A detailed report of it is also in- cluded in this edition. All departments, including the catechesis, youth apostolate, evangelisa- tion ministry and the family apostolate, have been busy planning many of their events for the rest of the year. Exciting times ahead for the eparchy. We are wishing you all a Happy Dukhrana and Syro-Malabar church day. The generosity of the Syro-Malabar community in Aus- tralia has helped Fr Eugen respond to the needs of a growing number of refugees entering Romania. They come traumatised and are so grateful for this support which includes providing full board, medicine, food and water, money and transport costs. Above all, they are provided with a safe place to begin the recovery process as they rebuild their lives. The continuing conflict in Ukraine impacts on the cost of living in Romania, which continues to rise, making this project vital to the needs of the refugees there. “The refugees are extraordinary people, accepting their situation and being ready to start a new life from zero. Strong people, trying to discern what to do every day, in a context in which you may not know when the war finishes.” Fr Eugen, Project Director EPARCHY MEDIA COMMISSION 13 SYRO-MALABAR EPARCHY OF ST THOMAS THE APOSTLE MELBOURNE

She came with her two years old baby, Emily, her brother, Denis, her mother, Tatiana, and with a small puppy pet, called Emy. There were so desperate, tired, and worried because the husbands and part of the family remained behind. Also, the grandmother, 86 years old. Natali’s husband and Tatiana’s husband were taken to war. They were so sad. All of them were living in the car for three days and were desperate to find a place to stay. So, they got my phone number form the JRS center and requested me to give them accommodation. All of them were under shock when they arrived here. PARISH /MISSION UPDATES Ave Maria Syro-Malabar Mission Ipswich, QLD 13th June is a very special day for our vicar, Fr. Anto Chiriyank- andath. We celebrated the Feast of his patron, St Antony of Padua. Our Trustee facilitated Fr. Anto and gave a short message about his patron, St. Antony of Padua. Distributed sweets to all parishioners. “Ezhuthiniruthu”– Initiation of a child into the World of Let- ters. A Guru (Teacher) should be a man of prayer, knowledge, and divinity. The one who teaches the first letters have a great im- portance in the academic life of the child. On Pentecost Sunday, our Vicar, Fr. Anto Chiriyankadath blessed our children who are about to start their academic life and taught them to write the Holy name of Jesus in the rice. We celebrated our Thirunnal on 2nd May 2022. Flag hoisting was at 3:30pm followed by “Presudenthi Vazhcha”. The main cel- ebrant of the Holy mass was Fr. Johnny Edapulvan and gospel message was given by Fr. Jio Francis. After the mass, we had procession followed by “ Chendamelam”, Drama, Concert and Agape(“Snehavirunnu”). Drama was en- acted by our parishioners based on a social theme and Concert was led by our Choir members. We had stalls from Mathruvedi & SMYM along with a special Nostalgia stall which had merchandises from Kerala that brought back memories of Thirunnal celebrations in Kerala. In the month of April, AMCM Math- ruvedi was formed and Mathruvedi dele- gates were appointed to empower wom- en of our parish. Two representatives from each unit were elected to as delegates and they launched their first initiative, Mathru- vedi Food stalls during our Thirunnal. It was a great success, and we are looking forward for many innovative activities from the Mathruvedi team. Holy Week was celebrated by re-enactment of the way of the cross & Resurrection. The re-enactment was new to the parish. Parishioners, especially youth played a big role in the re-enact- ment, and it was quite a divine and touch- ing experience especially for our children.
