delivery how it works you will be supported by a lifetime learning coach for the duration of your programme. they will be there every step of the way to guide you through your learning, answer questions + prepare you for your end-point assessments enrolment + meeting 121 coaching sessions feedback your coach once enrolled, you will you + your manager will once you apply to fire have monthly one-to- receive helpful feedback up, you will be invited one training sessions + development activities to start your enrolment. with your learning coach following each learning which will take place you will be sent an remotely, with face- coach session your email to enrol on to to-face visits in your learning plan is tailored aptem where you will workplace as required complete your pre- to support you. your enrolment assessments in between sessions manager will be able to your coach will provide (more info on this see your progression on page 37) support via phone, on the aptem platform email + aptem too so they know best you will be invited to meet your coach where how to support you they will tailor your learning plan based on your experience + skills 20

off the job training learners on an apprenticeship will have to complete 6 hours off-the-job training over the course of their programme. however, off-the-job training does not mean time away from the workplace + is best viewed as dedicated development time • includes any learning or training completed outside of your normal day-to-day working duties • supports your development + leads towards achievement of the programme • is in place to ensure you are supported through your training + have opportunities to embed learning into your role what counts as ‘off-the-job’? • shadowing senior team + reflecting on your learning • role specific training during work hours • independent learning completed in the workplace • work based projects, research + development • sessions with your learning coach • learning covered on wagamama’s learning platform - getting started • handling new challenges by putting your new skills + knowledge into practice • workplace activities that stretch you such as taking on a new responsibility. it could include: • leading a team meeting • completing a risk assessment • setting smart goals for others 22
functional skills maths + english form the basis of many of our daily tasks + developing these skills can give you more confidence in your role. whilst completing your apprenticeship, you will also be expected to achieve qualifications in maths + english if you don’t already have them. these are known as functional skills – the ‘industry transferable skills’ equivalent to holding the relevant gcse levels. if you already have certificates in maths + english, you can send these over to your learning coach who can check if you have achieved the required level* level 2 apprenticeships level 3-5 apprenticeships if you do not have maths + gcse grade d-e /3 gcse grade a*-c /9-4 english certificates, you will be supported by lifetime level 1 functional skills level 2 functional skills to achieve your maths + english qualifications during your programme * be sure to send the original copies of your certificates to your learning coach as only these can be accepted 23
commitment + support successful completion of an apprenticeship is a team effort; you, your learning coach + your manager can all contribute to your success. by offering you this development opportunity, we are making a commitment to give you the support needed to succeed, but you must also be prepared for the challenge + be ready to commit to your own development your commitment apprenticeships take a minimum of 12-18 months to complete you will be expected to: • sign a learning agreement at the start of • commit to completing independent the programme to outline your commitment + work-based learning activities (this will also be signed by your Manager) within agreed timescales • be motivated to learn, develop + implement • upload all completed work to aptem, new skills knowledge + behaviours logging your off-the-job hours • attend all scheduled learning sessions • give at least 48 hours notice to postpone or cancel a session with your learning coach support from your learning coach you will have the one-to-one support of a specialist learning coach who will be on hand to guide you every step of the way through the apprenticeship your learning coach will: • schedule + deliver regular learning • provide regular feedback on sessions, check off-the-job training, your work + progress review progress + agree new learning actions with you • deal with enquiries + help quickly with any problems • maintain regular contact with you via phone, email + aptem 24
support from your manager your manager will play an important part in your development journey. lifetime + your coach will support the delivery of the ‘knowledge’ training as well as coaching + support for your assessment, whilst your manager will be required to support your development of ‘skills’ + ‘behaviours’ on-the-job your manager will be required to: • be present for progress review sessions • support you if you have with you + your learning coach to concerns or challenges understand your development areas + provide any additional support needed • help you to plan your time effectively, e.g scheduling coaching sessions + • ensure you have time during work learning time around peak times + rotas hours to complete independent + work-based learning activities • use aptem to track your progress, sign-off reviews + your enrolment documentation • provide input to your ‘skills radar’, (they will be enrolled on to aptem shortly supporting you to develop the required after you put in your application for fire up) skills + behaviours for the apprenticeship 25

managers how to support your apprentice as a manager you’ll already be leading the way, through the way you share your knowledge + experience with your team, whether you’re covering our standards, best practice or our values + behaviours it’s important to understand the journey your apprentice is embarking on + the key role you play in supporting them. they may need more support from you over the coming months + a great way to do that is to think of yourself as their mentor as a mentor, it’ll be your responsibility to keep up to date with your apprentice’s learning + development as well as provide guidance + opportunities as they develop. we’ve included details of how fire up works, how you can support + where you can find updates + guidance 27

managers aptem for managers all managers with apprentices on programme will get their own aptem login. aptem is a web-based platform that provides you with a live view of all apprentices you are supporting from preenrolment through to achievement aptem enables you to: • instantly see how apprentices are progressing • sign apprenticeship paperwork with electronic signatures • access the messaging centre to see communications throughout the apprenticeship • support apprentice’s development with clear learning tasks important once your apprentice starts the enrolment process, you will both receive an email invitation to activate your aptem account – it’s important you do this as soon as possible to get started 30

managers frequently asked questions here are the answers to some of the questions we often get asked... will my apprentices have to take time off can my apprentice be promoted work to complete the programme? while on fire up? fire up programmes are work-based, so they absolutely! however, as part of stepping up, are designed to be completed during working it’s important a plan is put in place to ensure hours. apprentices will need to have 20% of their the apprentice gets the right level of support working time dedicated to their development. as they make the transition to their new role. this includes time for practical activities + this is so they aren’t overwhelmed as they training they carry out in the workplace to take on a new role, whilst completing fire up! develop in their role as well as time with their is promotion guaranteed after fire up? the learning coach or carrying out learning apprenticeship is a great course to upskill individuals to be successful in their current what is off-the-job training? role with the potential of progressing, but apprentices on the fire up programmes the apprenticeship does not mean automatic must spend 6 hours a week of their working promotion, they would still go through the time dedicated to ‘off-the-job’ training over same wagamama process of promotion the course of their programme. however, off-the-job training does not mean time is there a cost to fund these programmes? away from the workplace + is best viewed wagamama have a fund which can only be as dedicated development time used to pay for development programmes what if my apprentice is falling behind? does an apprentice need english + maths firstly, is there a reason why they are falling qualifications to take part? behind? have they had 6 hours a week of if an apprentice does not already have training time? have all visits gone ahead with qualifications such as gcse’s (or equivalent) their learning coach? are they being set realistic in maths + english, they’ll be supported to targets by the learning coach on aptem? have complete these as part of their programme. a conversation with the learning coach about these are known as functional Skills – the your worries, you can call or email them, industry transferable qualifications equivalent you don’t have to wait until the next visit to holding the relevant gcse levels what if an apprentice decides to leave wagamama? unfortunately, this may happen, if an apprentice leaves wagamama for whatever reason they will no longer be eligible to continue fire up with us. please ensure you let the learning coach know 33
