delivery how it works you will be supported by a lifetime learning coach for the duration of your programme. they will be there every step of the way to guide you through your learning, answer questions + prepare you for your end-point assessments enrolment + meeting 121 coaching sessions your coach once you apply to fire up, you once enrolled, you will have will be invited to start your monthly one-to-one training enrolment. you will be sent sessions with your learning an email to enrol on to aptem coach which will take place where you will complete your remotely, with face-to-face visits pre-enrolment assessments in your workplace as required (more info on this on page 37) in between sessions your coach will provide support you will be invited to meet via phone, email + aptem your coach where they will tailor your learning plan based on your experience + skills end-point assessment independent learning once you have finished all self-study is set between each the elements of your learning session with your learning coach. plan, you will complete a this is grouped into monthly final assessment – known activities within your learning plan as an end-point assessment. this typically takes place you will access + complete all over a 3-month period your learning via lifetime’s online learning platform, aptem 20 fire up apprenticeship guide you will also be set regular work- based activities to complete, helping you to apply + evidence all your learning in your role. this is referred to as off the job training

functional skills maths + english form the basis of many of our daily tasks + developing these skills can give you more confidence in your role. whilst completing your apprenticeship, you will also be expected to achieve qualifications in maths + english if you don’t already have them. these are known as functional skills – the ‘industry transferable skills’ equivalent to holding the relevant gcse levels. if you already have certificates in maths + english, you can send these over to your learning coach who can check if you have achieved the required level* level 2 apprenticeships gcse grade d-e /3 level 1 functional skills level 3-5 apprenticeships gcse grade a*-c /9-4 level 2 functional skills if you do not have maths + english certificates, you will be supported by lifetime to achieve your maths + english qualifications during your programme coocfttaa*hocnyehboybeuoaoerrsusigruacoircennleceraletyaltpirofttcniehocisndepaegtsineeedss fire up apprenticeship guide 23
commitment + support successful completion of an apprenticeship is a team effort; you, your learning coach + your manager can all contribute to your success. by offering you this development opportunity, we are making a commitment to give you the support needed to succeed, but you must also be prepared for the challenge + be ready to commit to your own development your commitment apprenticeships take a minimum of 12-18 months to complete you will be expected to: • sign a learning agreement at the + work-based learning activities start of the programme to outline within agreed timescales your commitment (this will also be signed by your Manager) • upload all completed work to aptem, logging your off-the-job hours • be motivated to learn, develop + implement new skills • give at least 48 hours notice to knowledge + behaviours postpone or cancel a session with your learning coach • attend all scheduled learning sessions • commit to completing independent support from your learning coach you will have the one-to-one support of a specialist learning coach who will be on hand to guide you every step of the way through the apprenticeship your learning coach will: • schedule + deliver regular learning sessions, check off-the-job training, review progress + agree new learning actions with you • maintain regular contact with you via phone, email + aptem • provide regular feedback on your work + progress • deal with enquiries + help quickly with any problems 24 fire up apprenticeship guide
support from your manager your manager will play an important part in your development journey. lifetime + your coach will support the delivery of the ‘knowledge’ training as well as coaching + support for your assessment, whilst your manager will be required to support your development of ‘skills’ + ‘behaviours’ on-the-job your manager will be required to: • be present for progress review sessions with you + your learning coach to understand your development areas + provide any additional support needed • ensure you have time during work hours to complete independent + work-based learning activities • provide input to your ‘skills radar’, supporting you to develop the required skills + behaviours for the apprenticeship • support you if you have concerns or challenges • help you to plan your time effectively, e.g scheduling coaching sessions + learning time around peak times + rotas • use aptem to track your progress, sign-off reviews + your enrolment documentation (they will be enrolled on to aptem shortly after you put in your application for fire up) fire up apprenticeship guide 25
tools to support you aptem aptem is lifetime’s online learning platform used to support you throughout your programme. with aptem, your learning plan is grouped into manageable monthly learning chunks. there are a range of different interactive resources + activities to suit learning styles + with aptem’s helpful dashboard you can view your progress, track your off-the-job hours + highlight any upcoming or overdue learning activities aptem not only provides a seamless experience for you, from enrolment to end-point assessment, but it is also designed to make your line managers’ role easier in supporting your development. aptem provides a real-time view of your progress so line managers can see exactly how you are progressing, meaning they can support you more throughout your fire up journey 26 fire up apprenticeship guide

managers – how to support your apprentice as a manager you’ll already be leading the way, through the way you share your knowledge + experience with your team, whether you’re covering our standards, best practice or our values + behaviours it’s important to understand the journey your apprentice is embarking on + the key role you play in supporting them. they may need more support from you over the coming months + a great way to do that is to think of yourself as their mentor as a mentor, it’ll be your responsibility to keep up to date with your apprentice’s learning + development as well as provide guidance + opportunities as they develop. we’ve included details of how fire up works, how you can support + where you can find updates + guidance who is fire up for? fire up programmes are available to anyone who is committed to their development. we love developing our people + that is why we are investing so much into our apprenticeship programme with lifetime how to be accepted onto a fire up programme apprentices will need to: • meet the eligibility criteria • score no less than entry level 3 in their online maths + english • have approval + support from functional skills assessments their line manager/mentor • complete all their pre-enrolment • pass a suitability (role + activities on lifetime’s learning responsibilities) skills radar for platform aptem, including any required their chosen fire up programme pre-work in the timelines set how it works • each fire up programme lasts a minimum • apprentices + mentors are also supported by of 13 months, depending on the level, plus the aptem learning platform, from enrolment all additional time for end point assessments the way to assessment. on aptem apprentices will have access to all resources they need • learners receive one-to-one support from a + clear learning plans – all in one place dedicated lifetime learning coach throughout the programme. they will support with • you will need to allow apprentices time coaching sessions, remotely or face to face during their shift to complete their learning when necessary + will establish a learning on the Aptem platform (approx. 2 hours plan to challenge + guide your apprentice per week for a full-time apprentice) • learning coaches will arrange monthly one- fire up programmes focuses on developing new to-one support sessions at a time agreed skills + behaviours, as well as knowledge, with you + your apprentice - these will so you’ll need to give your apprentice either be online via Zoom or at the site opportunities to apply their new learning in the workplace + practice new skills 28 fire up apprenticeship guide
how you need to support managers will play a key role in ensuring these programmes run smoothly. to make things simple, we’ve set out exactly what we expect from you at each stage pre-enrolment • if a apprentice expresses interest in a programme, you’ll need to chat with them to check it’s relevant to their role + they are committed to completing it! remember you will be expected to support them for the duration of the programme as well • if you endorse their application, you will be sent an email to activate your aptem account – this is the platform you will use to keep up to date with their fire up programme progress (see page 28) top tip on programme we recommend you have regular 121s • you will need to complete actions on the aptem with your apprentice platform to support your apprentice’s progress whilst they are on programme so you can support them + keep up to date with their progress • you will attend progress review sessions with your apprentice’s learning coach roughly every 12 weeks • support your apprentice if they have concerns or challenges • help your apprentice plan their time effectively – this top tip could include scheduling their coaching sessions learning coaches + learning time around peak times + rotas from lifetime are there to support both you + your apprentice. let them know your preferred ways of working + communication assessment so they can support you + your apprentice in the best way • be present for the gateway discussion - a meeting where you agree if your apprentice is ready to take their final assessment • be present for the assessment planning meeting – to agree, support + schedule the plans for their assessment • provide any support your apprentice needs for their assessments – quiet space, shift changes fire up apprenticeship guide 29
