FUNCTIONAL FUNCTIONAL SKILLS To complete the programmes apprentices will be required to hold Mathematics and English qualifications at a GCSE Grade E/2-3 or above for Level Two and Grade C/4 or above for Level Three. We refer to Mathematics and English as functional skills. These may have been achieved at school or college, in which case the apprentice will not need to complete any further study. If they do not hold these qualifications, Lifetime Training will support the apprentice to achieve their functional skills, which are the industry transferable skills equivalent to holding the relevant GCSE levels. Functional skills are delivered very differently to school and will help apprentices at work and in day-to-day life. They will have extra support from a specialist Mathematics and English tutor to ensure they are fully supported throughout the process. Please note – apprentices will need to have achieved their functional skills in Mathematics and English prior to taking their End-point Assessment. MANAGER SUPPORT Learning should be a truly collaborative approach. Managers who have colleagues enrolled on one of the Primark Apprenticeship Pathway programmes will play an important part in their development. The overall time commitment doesn’t need to be huge, yet the more active support that’s given, the more your colleague will flourish. In exceptional circumstances, a ‘mentor’ can be assigned yet they would need to be in an appropriate position to support the apprentice with their development. As a minimum, line managers/mentors should: • Be present for pre-booked trainer visits (two hours every other month) • Support the apprentice to develop their on-the-job skills and coach for workplace behaviours aligned to the apprenticeship • M onitor the learners progress and off-the-job training on Aptem • Support the apprentice in their time management • Ensure the apprentice is given time during work hours to complete off-the-job training and independent study required for the apprenticeship • Agree the point at which the apprentice is ready to take their End-point Assessment with the Lifetime Trainer • Be available to attend the End-point Assessment activities • Update Lifetime Training of any changes of circumstance (e.g. the apprentice moving store) or notify the trainer if a visit needs to be cancelled or re-booked SUPPORT 32
