The truth about apprenticeships Apprenticeships are often thought of as development options exclusively for young people who are new into workplace, but that isn’t the case. People of all ages and at all stages in their careers, right up to senior management are encouraged to learn through apprenticeships as it’s recognised that on the job learning is the most effective way to upskill and implement new behaviours or skills. Here are some facts about apprenticeships you may not be aware of: • There’re no age limits to who can complete an apprenticeship • Both established team members and new recruits can achieve an apprenticeship • Doing an apprenticeship won’t mean you take a cut in pay • If you have a higher-level qualification such as a degree, you can still complete an apprenticeship, provided that your existing qualification is in an unrelated subject • Programmes take a minimum of 15 months to complete (including your assessments) but can be longer, depending on the level and your working hours • Includes qualifications in math and English – if you don’t already have these – known as Functional Skills 4

Apprenticeships Who can take part? To be eligible for an apprenticeship, you’ll need to meet the following criteria: • You’ll have passed your probation. • Been an EEA/ UK resident for the past 3 years. • Work 16+ hours per week. • Have the support of your Line Line Manager. • You’ll not be in any other form of education, such as another apprenticeship, college, or university. • Don’t have a qualification at the same level or above in a similar subject area. Depending on the apprenticeship you apply for, there may be some other requirements for enrolment, such as the role you’re in or your responsibilities. 5

Masterclasses Masterclasses are written and designed by Lifetime’s experienced Hospitality Curriculum Development Team. During each masterclass, you’ll gain an understanding of food safety legislation, personal hygiene, cross contamination, HandS and the importance of teamwork and communication. Masterclasses take place at locations outside of your restaurant. you’ll be told more details once enrolled on to the programme. Apprenticeships Chef Leadership Academy Senior Production Chef Level 3 The Chef Leadership Academy programme is designed to support newly promoted chefs who wish to develop their leadership behaviours. By the end of the programme, you’ll be confident and accountable for the day-to-day running of the kitchen. You’ll be able to produce guests’ meals consistently according to predetermined specifications, independently supervise and run shifts as well as motivate your team in an often hot and challenging kitchen environment. You’ll also be able to work under pressure to deliver an excellent guest experience, working quickly and efficiently to produce food often in high volumes. Webinars and Skills Days The Chef Leadership Academy webinars and skills days are written and designed by Lifetime’s experienced Hospitality Curriculum Development Team. You’ll join a cohort of Prezzo chefs for an exciting programme of enhanced learning activities to build your confidence to lead and manage the kitchen. Webinar 1 : To develop as a leader within our organisation, we need to understand 21st Century Leader exactly what skills we need to be effective. Apprentices will learn about Skills Workshop 1: the core skills they need to develop themselves, which could include: Me and My Shadow delegation, leadership styles, influencing and communicating. Emotional intelligence is the thread of being an effective leader. During this skills workshop, apprentices will learn about the characteristics of an effective leader and practice how to apply these skills with their peers. This could include: practice flexing own leadership style; delegating dependant on motivation and competence; and influencing others. Webinar 2: The ability to lead a shift effectively, lies in their ability to manage Those who can, do! performance and extract the best from team. Aptem provides a real-time view of your progress so Line Line Managers can see exactly how you are progressing, meaning they can support you more throughout your apprenticeship journey. 17

Off-the-Job Training As part of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to 6 working hours per week committed to learning and development. This is known as ‘Off-the-Job training’. 18

Functional skills As part of the Apprenticeship, you’ll also need to achieve qualifications in math and English, if you don’t already have them. These are known as Functional Skills – the ‘industry transferable skills’ equivalent to holding the relevant GCSE levels. If you’ve already completed these qualifications before, you’ll be exempt so long as they meet the necessary requirements*. If you don’t have the required level, you’ll be supported by Lifetime so you can achieve these during your Apprenticeship. You just need to make sure they’re in place before you take your End-point Assessment. 22

End-Point Assessment Your apprenticeship will be achieved on passing an End-Point Assessment [EPA]. This is your opportunity to demonstrate all of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you have developed to an Independent Assessor. 24

By offering you this development opportunity, we are making a commitment to give you the support needed to succeed, but you must also be prepared for the challenge and ready to commit to your own development. 26

Apprenticeships On Programme support Support from your Line Manager Your Line Manager will play an important part in your development journey. Lifetime will support the delivery of the ‘knowledge’ training as well as coaching and support for your assessment, whilst your Line Manager will be required to support your development of ‘skills’ and ‘behaviours’ on-the-job. Your Line Manager will need to: Attend your ‘Meet your Coach’ enrolment session with your Learning Coach at the beginning of the apprenticeship programme. Attend progress review sessions with you and your Lifetime Coach (every 3 months) to understand your development areas and provide any additional support needed. Ensure you have time during work hours to complete independent and work-based learning activities. Provide input to your skills radar - supporting you to develop the required skills and behaviours throughout the apprenticeship. Use Aptem to track your development, sign-off progress reviews and enrolment documentation. 27

Apprenticeships On Programme support Support from your Lifetime coach Your Lifetime Coach will be your key point of contact on programme and will be on hand to guide you every step of the way. Your Learning Coach will: Schedule and deliver regular learning sessions, check Off-the-Job training, review progress and agree new learning actions with you. Maintain regular contact with you via phone, email and Aptem. Prepare you for your End-point Assessments and Functional skills exams where required. Provide regular feedback on your work and progress. Deal with enquiries and help quickly with any problems. 28
