End-point Assessment (EPA) Towards the end of the programme the learner will need to showcase the knowledge, skills and behaviours they have developed to an independent assessor. The assessor will deliver their final grade, which could be a pass, merit or distinction dependent on the programme. Following a mock assessment, the learner, manager and the Learning Coach will agree whether they are ready to take the End-point Assessment. Once agreed, the apprentice, manager, the trainer and assessor will meet to build relationships and discuss requirements and plans for the EPA. 16
Functional Skills As part of the apprenticeship the learner will also need to achieve qualifications in maths and English, if they don’t already have them. These are known as Functional Skills – the ‘industry transferable skills’ equivalent to holding the relevant GCSE levels. If the learner has already completed these qualifications before, they will be exempt so long as they meet the necessary requirements.* If the learner doesn’t have the required level they will be supported by Lifetimes Training’s specialist English and maths coaches. They just need to make sure they’re in place before they take their End-point Assessment. The levels of maths and English required are: G CSE Grade A*-C/9-4 in maths and English L evel 2 Functional Skills or equivalent * To qualify for an exemption, they will need to present original copies of the certificates that meet the required level to their trainer at the induction visit. 17
